Do you have the part number for the black OEM surrounds? I want to get rid of the chrome ones also. Awesome build! Following. I like to see others that don't have a decked out ZR2 as I'm working with an LT.
Thank you! There are four parts to the black fog light surrounds:
22891701 Trim Bezel Right
22891701 Trim Bezel Left
84219416 Molding, left
84219415 Molding, right

Good luck with your build!

I received my RAM mounts in the mail this week and "installed" them yesterday. Right now I'm kind of playing with placement, etc. One thing which is set is the phone mount (far left circle). I cut the Course Motorsports mount then drilled it to fit the Tough Track bolt. I need to paint the nut and the top of the thread black (because OCD). So many mounts, so few devices to mount . . .

And no, even with everything up there, it does not block my view. I'm 6'3" and when I look out the windshield, everything except the top 1/4" of the iPad is within the hood.

On vacation up at my in-law's place in Oregon. The truck did great on the 1,000 mile trip up, hauling us, our two Ridgebacks, and all our stuff with ease.

[David Attenborough voice] Here we see the Z71 Bison wanna be in its natural habitat, waiting in ambush for any unsuspecting import sedans. [/David Attenborough voice]

The house is on a beautiful lake

She's not as fast as the Colorado, but even with a snorkel the truck can't get out on the lake

Oh, and I caught this beauty off our dock ( and yes, the dogs both got some trout)

Nice pics. If the stars align I’ll be heading up to my grandparents house in Gold Hill in a couple weeks. My truck has been itching for a long trip like yours.

Due to my neck injuries, I was able to get a "disabled archer" permit this year and bought myself a crossbow. After a bit of research, I ended up getting an Excalibur Micro 360TD Pro. I won't go too into the details, but I wanted a crossbow that was field serviceable and the Pro has the upgraded (and very nice) trigger and comes in Kryptek camouflage. Once it arrived, I took it out to a friend's ranch to sight it in. Took next to no time to get it dialed in out to 60 yards.

Image

The next upgrade was adding an ARB awning to the roof rack. I had an awning on my 4Runner and found it really nice to have in inclement weather or on sunny days. The nicest thing about this new awning is that, apparently, ARB now only makes them with the LED light strip in them. I used FourTreks mounts to attach the awning to the rack. LINK At $105 they aren't cheap, but they're made in USA and they are pieces of CNC machined art. They are also solid af.

As you might be able to tell from the skies, the awning came in very handy on this trip. Although it's light out, you can also see the LED light strip. It's really nice and dimmable too.

Thanks Doc, appreciate the compliment. Sounds like you had some fun. I was with 1st Recon Batt Light Armored (now 1st LAR) and then an assistant instructor at SOI. This was in the early 90's, Clinton era. Waaay too much time in garrison dealing with 1st Sgt's BS and not enough time doing cool ****. I was really happy to get out when I did. I look back on it more fondly now almost 30 years later. My neck still hates the Corps though.

Clinton era days eh... no ammo for practice... butter butter jam.... so las Flores for you then right?

Looks like you have a lot of fun out there with your rig, I wish to do something with a bunch of Marines and FMF corpsman (blue side can stay out) outing, god who knows, I might even put something together on this thread one day and do one massive outing with prior servicemen/women, I wonder how many would turn out for that... and imagine the sea stories that would be told there

until then I need to step my game up... really liking your top cover and tent set up... need to keep my eyes peeled out there for used deals

Check out Veteran Overland. LINK I've been trying to get a SoCal group together. They did a Baja trip earlier this year but I couldn't break free from work.

Wow, haven’t been out to California since I left in 2014 to get stationed out in Lejeune, it would be a good drive from where I am now, Michigan, to get to Cali and do a SoCal group.

Well, hoisting the kayak on and off the roof got old very, very fast. So this past weekend I picked up a trailer for it. The kayak cradles came in yesterday and will get installed this weekend.
Image

Also this weekend, I will FINALLY be installing the White Knuckle Off Road sliders I picked up a few months ago. Just in time for hunting season.

Anyone want to buy a set of ZR2 sliders?

Yup. I have them on my 4Runner and added grip tape. These have the top plates though, so we'll see.

So I installed the White Knuckle Off Road sliders today. First off, the sliders are very impressive, super-well built. Much sturdier than the ZR2 sliders. The instructions are "meh" at best and could use some help and clarity.

The first issue which came up was realizing I would have to remove my AEV skid plates for the job. BTDT enough that it wasn't a big deal and all the bolts are the same size and easily accessible with the impact gun. So the skid plates came off pretty quickly. I just take them off as one piece. You can also see how much beefier the White Knuckle sliders are compared to the ZR2 sliders.

The installation of the White Knuckle sliders was pretty straightforward even with the sub-par instructions.

However, I then ran into an issue when I was re-installing the skid plates. It was a no-go due to a clearance issue with one of the mounting plates. I circled the problem area here. With the bracket being where it is, I cannot rotate the skid plate enough to get those "ears" around the frame rail. I'm going to notch the skid plate to get everything to fit. Unfortunately, I ran out of time and hunting season opens next weekend so that job will need to wait a few weeks.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Looks really good and will perform much better in the event that you taste some rock/boulders. Bummer about the skid plates, but I’m sure you will get that fixed no problem.

Thanks! Looks like I need to cut a notch out of the skid plate. Shouldn't be a big deal, but I've never done something like that. Time to learn I guess!
