What is the first thing you would get?

We are picking up our Crew Cab Z71 4x4 in red tomorrow. I am so excited to buy something for it already. What would be your first accessory purchase for your truck? What do you think is the most important thing to get and/or the thing that adds the most style to your truck???

I also have been looking on ebay and noticed someone selling little plastic inserts for the tire well or something? What is that and is it important to have or just junk? It is only a couple bucks.

Hood Shield is the most important.

I had entertained the thought of not having one, as they're one of those things that don't look so great but you really should have.

Turns out, they don't take a thing away from the looks either!

I broke down and got one a week after I drove my truck off the lot. The paranoia of rock chips on my hood drove me crazy.

You may also wanna consider tires or a bedliner.

There isn't a *whole lot* of stuff out yet that adds a ton of style.

As for those caps...every time I see 'em, I laugh. Yeah, if you look, there's a big open frame crossmember in the rear wheel well, but eh...if it needed to be covered up, Chevy would've done so.

Here's a list of first to last stuff I'd (And I AM getting) get:

1.) Hood Shield, also known as "Bug/Rock Deflectors" or "Bug Shields". I think they actually add to the look of the truck. Like S2k said, it'll protect the hood. Price: About $50.

2.) In-Channel Ventvisors, if you like to open the windows, you can then do it when it rains. I think these add to the look of the truck, too. Price: About $50-$90.

3.) Hitch Cover. If you have a hitch receiver and don't plan on using it all the time, get a nice bowtie for it. Price: About $20-$40

4.) Bedmat/Liner. I'm getting at least a bed mat to protect the bottom of the bed for scratches, so I can use my bed. I don't like scratches anywhere. If you get a liner, don't plan on removing it ever because it'll leave a bunch of scratches unless you use a lot of double sided foam tape, and I mean a lot, or unless it's a line-x/rhino liner. I plan on getting at least the bed mat, if not the line-x. Line-x is permanent. Price: About $50 (mat), About $150-$200 (plastic liner), About $300-$600 (Rhino Liner/Line-X)

5.) Tonneau cover. This way, stuff in the bed doesn't get wet. It's like a trunk, essentially. I plan on getting a painted fiberglass one. Price: About $150-$200 for many vinyl ones, About $650 for a folding one, About $700-$1000 for a fiberglass one, already painted to match.

I included prices of the stuff so you know what to expect when purchasing the accessory or accessories.

Click "New Gallery (3/31)" in S2k's signature. His truck is Victory Red with the smoke hood shield.

I recommend against the clear ones. You see every imperfection on them amplified by the sun. Red may look pretty good, though I have no experience with anything but smoke, and my mom had a clear one on one of her trucks.

Also, because of the lighting conditions, parts of S2k's truck appear orange. It really doesn't look that color. It's just camera "effects".

WOW! Thanks for all the info!! I really want to get all of those things. My husband works with a guy that sprays the bedliners in himself so we can do it for $100 I guess. SO that will be nice. I don't know which tonneau cover to get. We just want a soft one. We live in ND so it is bad weather and we want to make sure it is okay for that.
I also want to get a remote start too. Anyone get one of those yet??? I know they don't add to the looks of course, but still nice to have up here in the cold weather!

haha...camera "effects". Lets put it this way, my camera was a piece of crap 2 1/2 years ago when I got it, and it hasn't gotten any better. ;)

There's also this pic of my bug shield, taken from straight on a longer while back.

I have everything that SuperH mentioned in his post, so you can get a good look at it. ;)

I also did a tire upgrade before my truck came off the lot. My tonneau is an Access Cover, and is supposed to be the best on the market. There's a thread telling the whole story of my cover purchase in the "Styling Modifications" forum.

EDIT: As far as color matched vs clear vs smoked, the way I look at it, the smoke color simply becomes an extension of the grille area. Personally, and I know plenty of people have been just fine, I'd worry about color matched ones, unless its from GM or your dealer directly. I'd worry about color matching and fading. I know my dealer takes a clear shield and paints the inside of it for their color matched ones. Its like double the price.

If I had it to do over again, I'd get a shield like koolZ71s.

First thing I had to do is upgrade the stereo system (see my post under the LS speakers thread). I am also planning to get a spray in bedliner next. After that, I want a chrome grille guard with light kit and winch. Then chrome nerf bars and tail light guards. I also want some better floor mats that will really catch mud and dirt. Some Wet Okole neoprene seat covers would be nice too. Some new 16" rims and Pirelli Scorpion AT tires would be nice... man, this is getting expensive.

To agree with S2K, I hear Access is a good brand for the sort tonneau. My only suggestion would be to get one of the roll up styles, just a lot easier to use in my opinion. Also on my opinion of style I prefer the tonneau covers that mount on the inside of the bed rails, i believe they are called low profile or something like that.. This way you don't have the tonneau sticking up over the bed. Just my personal opinion.

Hey,

I actually got a starter put in my truck about a month ago..and its fantastic....not only can I start the vehicle in cold or hot weather from inside..but the door lock feature opens my doors from 2000 feet away..compared to 2 feet from the one you get with the truck. If you want to know the brand or whatever..let me know.

Cheers.

The best traits in a cover (I think most would agree) are no drilling, roll-up & self storing (so you can still use 98% of your bed), locking, non-snapping, tension adjustable, and the support bows roll up with it. Access has all of these.

It also is completely "inside" of the bed, so that you still have your bed rails. From there, you can keep them exposed, or add accessories/protection.
