Hi, kind of a silly question, but ... I just picked up my 2005 Colorado last week, and I've been looking at doing upgrades for it. As I've been searching around, I've noticed something. When I bought the truck, it was listed as an LS, but a lot of the searches I've done, including searching the VIN number doesn't list the LS model for my 4x4 Extended Cab, it either lists it as a z71 or z85 ... so, what is it and how can I find out which I have?

I looked up the VIN on the DMV site and it lists it as:

* VIN:
* Year: 2005
* Make: Chevrolet

* Style / Body: Extended Cab 2D
* Engine: 2.8L / 3.5L I4 / I5 MPI
* Country of Assembly: United States

* Model: Colorado LS Z71 / LS Z85 / Z71 / Z85

If you have any questions for more info, just let me know.

Thanks
Ash

Is that your full name, ash? If so that's awesome.

Anyway, It does look to be a z78 from the pictures, but could be wrong. Dealers list them wrong sometimes as well, Mine's an SLE-A w/Z71 suspension package, but listed it as Z78 SL.

Late, but welcome to c-fans.

Thanks for the welcome.

No, Ash is a nickname I picked up while in the military and one that has stuck with me for a long ... long time.

Would it be listed anywhere on the truck itself? Might have to go looking at all the stickers under the hood tomorrow when I get out of school.

You have a Z85 which is the suspension designation for the standard suspension. Z71 is the offroad suspension and can be identified by the larger tires, different wheels, and large fender flares.

LS/LT SL/SLT etc, are interior trim levels.

Since you have a 2005, the trim levels were base and LS, so you have the upper level.

Go here to look up the rpo codes on the sticker in your glove compartment.

You were right, I went by the local Chevy dealership and had them look up my VIN in their system, it is an 05 LS Z85 4x4.

Thanks for your help
