USB won't read data

Hey all,

Hoping someone can help me out here. I have a 2016 Colorado with the 8" Bose sound system. No problems until yesterday when it decided to stop reading my USB drive with all my music on it.

Some info:

I've tried all four USB ports in the Colorado, none are working. They will charge my phone, but won't recognize the USB drive.

I've tried formatting my drive and reloading my music. That sucked (about 30GB of music), but still no luck.

I've tried using another USB drive, the one out of my Cruze (which works fine in there), still no luck.

My music is a combination of MP3 and WMA formats, both of which should be compatible with the sound system.

Anyone else have this issue or know of a solution? I'd love to take care of this without taking it in if possible. If not, I do have it scheduled for an alignment with the dealership next week and can have them take a look at it then.

Thanks!

This may sound weird but what was the temp outside? I realized that with very cold temps it doesn't want to read my USB. Once it warms up a bit it's fine, and every other function of the radio works fine.

In my truck, all 4 ports recognize media. That being said, have you tried not putting so much music on the thumb drive as a test?

There is a limit to how many files the Infotainment system will index. However, I'm not sure what happens when you exceed that limit... does it quit recognizing all files or does it just fail to recognize the files that exceed the limit. That, I'm not sure about.

Make sure you're formatting the flash drive as FAT32. If that doesn't work disconnect your car's battery for 10 minutes so it resets the radio. It could be something as dumb as the radio being hung up. That's happened to my '09 Outtie a few times. :/

After having the Android Auto update done last week, the USB in my console stopped reading my MP3 thumb drive today. The one underneath the head unit still reads the thumb drive fine.

Anyone else have this happen?

I got my Colorado 7 weeks ago, and have had problems with the media center twice. Yesterday it wouldn't see the ipod or the flash drive. The DIC and media screen didn'the display the same.. I left the truck for few minutes and it reset itself, but took it to the dealer today anyway. Supposedly there has been some issues and the dealer did 2 software upgrades. Too soon to tell, but everything is back to normal now.

I have a new 2016 with the Bose system, and the only USB port that does anything is the one right under the radio, on the front console.

None of the 3 ports on the under arm area or for the back seat passengers work at all. No power, no connection, no charging. Dealer says a power board on the stereo is defective(truck is 1 month old and they never worked from day 1) and the part has been on order for almost 2 weeks now.

I guess we have a confirmed known issue. I have tried all the basic troubleshooting to no avail. Also realized that both ports on the back of the console are dead too. Scheduling service :censored:
