Truck Value Sanity Check

2016 GMC Canyon Diesel CCLB All Terrain Silver in Very Good to Excellent Condition 70,700 miles. What’s the consensus on a value?
Reason I’m asking is I want to sell the truck and had a rough idea what I thought the value was but got a dealer quote along with carmax etc and they were much lower than expected. Obviously they will need room for profit but it seemed too low. Just need some confirmation either way.

values have for sure fallen way way off from their covid era highs. yours is a canyon though so maybe worth more from the get go.

in my pnw also, and sold my (one owner, me) '18 colorado crew cab long bed duramax with 100k miles last fall to a dealer for ~20k.
they listed it the next day for ~25-26

I was thinking it was worth high 20s and that’s what they would list for, they offered $20K which seems too low to me. COVID were ridiculous and I know they have come down from there.

Being a CCLB diesel with low miles makes it pretty desirable for those looking for one. I'd think you could get around $26k if you sold it yourself. Dealer trade in I can't see you getting more than $22k tops, once vehicles hit 10 years old they can be hard to finance and dealers just send them to auction.

For S&Gs I got my private party value from KBB for my truck with it's current mileage and then with 70,000 miles. With 127k it says private party is roughly $21,000, with 70,000 miles that changes to $31,500, more than a $10k difference.

Those numbers $20k wholesale $26k retail seem about right and are very similar to Carfax and typical retail on my V6 Canyon. Your low miles mean that dealer may keep it for used inventory, as said over 100k and they just send to auction usually. Dropped about $1500 in last 3 months BTW

Interestingly (or disappointingly?) my wife's 2019 CX5 is worth $21,000 trade in or cash at our local Mazda dealer and it was $10k less than the Canyon new.

Mostly true although some older fullsize have actually been gaining over the last 20 years. Especially Suburban, BB 7.4L, 8.1L. Condition is everything, but good examples are bringing very strong prices. I had a 2000 K2500 big block, that I bought used in 2008 and sold in 2023 for more than I paid for it.

So.... and this required a little bit of reading between the lines... used pickup prices in general in my area have dropped to more reasonable numbers in the last nearly year or so. That definitely plays a role too....
