In late 2019 I was considering affixing a RotoPax 2 gal diesel fuel (or water, possibly even 1 gal instead) container when removing the spare for off road (for the reason stated above).

With it being flat it should not pose an issue of puncture (that high up in there). It should also be far enough away from OEM exhaust. But, one could also err on the side of caution and go with water for environmental and or safety reasons. Again, it would maintain some weight on the system while the tire was not there.

I did test, and the mount that supports the wheel to the cable does not slide through the RotoPax opening.
