Review of OnStar WiFi

Yeah, I feel about the same way.

It's almost there, but not quite. Standalone, the data plans are way, way too expensive. And, I'm not an AT&T subscriber so it being exclusively AT&T means I can't add it to my Verizon account for $10. Note that this limitation is artificial, LTE is LTE and if there was a spot you could change the SIM Card, you could use it on Verizon.

I would love to see some deeper integration between the LTE connectivity and the infotainment system. For example, let me log into Pandora directly on the radio and not require that I tether. Add in MyXM functionality and let me sign into personalized XM stations. On systems with Nav, allow it to download Google maps/traffic in addition to or instead of XM traffic.

Maybe, in a few years, if I happen to be on the fence about staying with Verizon or switching to AT&T, all things being equal, I *might* switch to AT&T so that I can add my truck to my data plan for just $10, but that's a big if.

The fact that GM is still pushing OnStar, that OnStar is still as expensive as it is for as little value that you get over your cell phone, and that they've done LTE integration in such a limited way just shows that the old, legacy car makers still don't get tech.

I love my Colorado, but I definitely didn't buy it based on the infotainment/technology features and neither did they factor in really at all to my buying decision.

The irony..Delphi was created from a spin-off of General Motors.

The fact that they can do it for $5, and have all of the same functionality as OnStar, save for nav (which, app based should be free if I'm not talking to an operator) just shows how much of a rip-off OnStar is these days.

It does appear, though, that the Delphi Connect dongle does not support keyfob functions on the 2015 Colorado yet, according to the Delphi compatibility wizard.

The only OnStar feature I would consider paying for is the Keb Fob remote start and door unlock, and we all get that free for the next five years. When it expires, this might be a good alternative depending on OnStar pricing at that time.
I would easily pay $5-10 a month for all non-operator assisted features, meaning navigation sent from the app on my phone, key fob, remote start, and maintenance connectivity.
