So what are you seeing for average regen distances?

Please include the following details:

Tuned or Stock
2WD or 4WD
Mileage between regens
% city driving

Ive run both tuned and untuned so Ill include both

Stock
4WD
220 to 250 miles
90% city/traffic

Tuned
4WD
150-180 miles
90% city/traffic

AS mentioned in another thread but to boost this one along, I drive mainly 80% hwy / 20% city and I usually regen once a tank....every 450-475 miles. The last regen was within a couple miles after filling up so when it happens again I should get a better idea of miles and i will post my findings, "this will probably be one of the rare times I get 2 regens on the same tank."

Im one of those that always watch my mileage & rpms, Im not sure if I have ever missed a regen, LOL.

Stock 4WD

I am pretty much in line with you... Averaging 1 per tank about every 400 to 500 miles. I have not seen a message for regen popup ever but I don't think I have ever missed noticing when it happens because I too watch my RPM's and Mileage so I know whenever a regen is occurring.
I am stock 4WD but do have Airaid airbox installed.

I unfortunately haven't noticed once in 2700 miles. How do you know when it's doing it?
My last diesel was an LBZ, so obviously no regen

If you are idling at a stop (in drive) the RPM's will go from 650ish to 950ish. When driving, your instant fuel economy will take a dive. For example, when cruising at 65 if you normally get 32 mpg, it will go down to around 19 or 20.

No tune, 4X4
70% highway
Probably once per tank I make a trip from Anaheim to Lake arrowhead, so a 70 mile trip with a 20. Mile climb to 5500'
From what I have seen using the torque app on a tablet and watching exhaust temp and mpg 500-750 miles.
I did a 5000 mile road trip this summer and it looked like a regen every 1.5 tank.
I guess the better question, is how much def do you have to add and when.

4x4 Stock, Rural 55mph with 4 stoplights 15miles daily commute and i am getting 270, when i make longer trips for a few hundred miles I push into the 400 range.

I use torque a lot of time and monitor the Soot and see it is only dropping to 13% after most regens.
I did get the Message one time and it was because it went to start a regen right when i backed into my garage, then the next morning I idled before taking off for 5 minutes in gear (apparently it didn't think that was funny), drove my 15miles and message went out.

This is my first diesel so I'm still learning, but I have 2,500 miles on it and have not noticed anything different. I've only used 1/2 gallon of def so far, I hope this is normal lol....

Well this is a good thing, system is working as designed and seamless. You have probably had at least 5 regens by now.
By the way DEF fluid is not used in the regen process, raw diesel is injected in exhaust stream to create enough heat for the DPF(Soot trap) to incinerate all particulates built up inside it.
Happy travels with your new Duramax, they are a joy to own and drive.:smile2:

Random and possibly stupid question - If I get the regeneration message but it occurs when I arrive at my destination or when I'm on a tight schedule, is it simply going to run the cycle the next time I start up? While I don't plan to make this a habit, I doubt everyone simply has 15 - 20 minutes to cruise around at the whim of the DPF.

It should continue but you only get the message if you haven't been able to run a full regen. Normal regens don't trigger the alert, so if you got the message then I'd personally dedicate some time and keep driving as it has apparently not been able to work for a while

And on that note.... I have 3500 miles and have never seen the message...problem?.... does the message stay on the center screen very long? Or is it on the speedo screen?....I am completely clueless...first diesel.... Tho very happy with this machine.
See above. You wont see the message under normal operation, only if it hasn't had a chance to regen normally. Sounds like for you it's been operating fine.

I only get to drive the truck on weekends... It's the wife who gets to drive it to work... she is 3/4 highway and 1/4 country 50mph and I think the truck feels my butt and starts a Regen about every 400 miles. Sunday evening the Idle usually kicks up to 950 and I park it. She finishes it on the way to work. My triumph never does this.... :)
