ProVent Filter Change Question

I just changed my ProVent filter out, and my new one seems to fit very loose. Is that normal? I had to pull pretty hard to get the old one out, but the new one just slides in and hits bottom. The new o-ring that came wit it is on, and I purchased the filter through Sasquatch, so I'm confident it's not a counterfeit part. Figured I'd ask here and see what yall think. Thanks!

You sure it's hitting bottom? Did you lubricate the O-ring to help it slide in easier? Maybe you're just having issues getting the filter fully seated? Have you compared the height of the new filter when inserted vs the old one to confirm?

Hitting bottom may not be accurate, but its definitely not 'friction-fitting' like the old one did. Just dropping in, and when I push down on it or spin it, it doesn't seat into anything. The top cover screws back in as usual, so its not sticking up. Just seems weird, like it's a millimeter or two too small in diameter.

I'm sorry if this comes off as insulting, but are you sure you purchased the right replacement filter ? And it isn't a fake ?

I replaced mine about a year ago and it was snug. I lubricated the o-ring with a bit of used motor oil like I would the oil filter.

Not insulted at all. I bought the ProVent 200 replacement filter sold by Sasquatch Parts. I'm fairly confident it's not counterfeit. But, it's not outside the realm of possibility that it's a manufacturing defect. That's where I'm leaning now, anyway. I'm thinking I'm going to put the old one back in until I can get another one to try again.

Good thinking. They're a ~20-30k mile replacement part. Not sure how much driving you do, and under what conditions, but they last quite awhile.

Since you have both filters I'd think it would be pretty easy to set them side by side and bottom to bottom to determine what is different between them

So this morning I went out and monkeyed around with this filter some more. Taking Drax's advice, I put the old and new side by side and compared. Same diameter, same height, same part numbers. Dropped the old filter back in... felt the same as before. Nice, tight friction fit. Pulled it and tried the new one again. What the??? New filter is now a nice, tight friction fit like the old one! Not really sure what changed, but I'll take it! Thanks for the suggestions everybody. I'm guessing that it was just another case of user error on my part.

Ahhh, the (unfortunately) uncommon resolution post.

Nice to hear it was resolved. I hate it when I have no one to blame but myself lol.
