According to this there are quite a few that meet dexos 2 specs:
dexos2 Brands | GM dexosContact dexos? Licensing Program
I've seen that list, but if you look, most are "global" products and not available here. Of the North American oils, try to find something readily available and off the shelf. Chevy Duramax Diesels are very common and oil should be readily available for walk-in purchase at any auto parts store. For some reason it is not, and it's just a stupid situation!

I hate that swirl logo on that Dexos puts on the bottles. It looks like a 2. When you look closer, you can see a tiny little 1 , barely visible below the swirl. I keep checking stores and so far, have seen plenty of Dexos 1 oil but, not a single bottle of Dexos 2.

You're right, I assumed global meant everywhere. Seems like a lame situation to me.

The only Duramax engine that uses dexos2 oil is the 2.8.

As of the end of last month 2,600 were sold.

The Cruze diesel also uses dexos2 oil. But only 17,000 of those were sold.

So there's about 20,000 vehicles on North American roads requiring dexos2 oil right now. And most of them are getting their oil changed at dealers. So it will take another year or so before you'll find dexos2 at the corner store.

well I just was driving home today on hyw and low oil light came on. Got home 30 miles later and checked it and it is barely on the stick. Went by dealer and the service and parts are closed on weekends. They told me come in Monday at 7am . I told them why is it low being brand ne and only 4150 miles on the truck. I looked and it is not leaking anywhere. I may leave it Monday at 7am and let them check it if they will give me a loaner. I have to get to work and will be late because I work 40 miles away. Do you all think maybe it was little low maybe when I got it and after running it now for 6 weeks and 4150 miles the oil just filled up all pockets after running and the low light is now on because it is now at bottom of stick? Just only thing that makes since because it isn't leaking but I don't know. I know I called all over and only place that will have it is dealer.

Low oil pressure light - or - low oil level?

It's unclear to me which one you're referencing.

low oil level light. Pressure was fine
When you checked it did you let it sit at least 10min after you stopped the engine? The oil needs a bit to drain into the pan to get a true reading.

If the light comes on your likely 2qts low. It's 1qt from the top of the full mark to the bottom low line on the dip stick and in my experience (don't ask) it will go another quart low before the light triggers.

If I was in your shoes. I'd fill it with some full synthetic 5W-30 so it doesn't run lower (I'm thinking something is better than nothing) if it goes too low it will lose pressure (or worse aerate and pump foam through the engine) and that is what will ruin your engine, that's the purpose of the light to save you before that happens. Then go back to the dealer and make them drain it and replace the filer with the proper stuff.

Heck if a dealer is open, even if parts and service isn't, when I have an issue like that and they wont kick me down $20 of :censored: oil to save ruining an engine. That's just some backwards uncaring BS if ya ask me.

I am only 3 miles from dealer so I will just not drive it till Monday and just drop it to them and have them change it out and fill it and get me loaner to go to work. It is small dealer in Bartlesville, Ok. I just wondering what would cause it to be low at 4150 miles and it doesn't leak

Its possible to use a little bit while fully seating the piston rings, but on todays engines, with such tight tolerances, it shouldnt be much. Ill be interested to know what the dealer's explanation of this is.

Good your super close. Here I'm thinking you had miles to go

Agreed. I can understand someone wanting to be able to stop by their FLAPS and grab dexos2 oil but in the meantime it seems pretty simple to order online and have it delivered to the doorstep.

well they called me already and said everything is good. It was 11/2 quarts low. Im at 4150 miles they say tolerance for gas and diesel engines is 1 quart every 2k miles. I told them that cant be right because I have never had all my vehicles ever need oil between oil changes and usually never even was lower than half court ever that I remember when change was due. That said the guy said that he truly thinks it just new and seated and agreed with me this is just tolerance in engine they allow but not the norm. He said it was probably not all the way full exactly when I got it because they do not like to over fill and then it being new just seated the engine. They added the oil and said everything else looked good which I do believe I didn't see anything off otherwise. I will bring it back in another 1500 miles and they will do first oil change and check the level then on it and keep eye on the usage from here. I think all is going to be good and that is was just little low and it seated. Will keep eye on it. I will also get 2 quarts of oil when I pick it up tonight to have on hand because I couldn't get any Saturday from anywhere. Nobody carries yet.

glad to hear it might be ok. I've had quite a few healthy engines that burn some oil over time.

I changed mine at 2,000 just because it was new so I have nothing to compare to on how much was in there. I'll check it every 1,000 miles this time around to see if it gets lower.

I'm surprised at how early yours showed low oil. I think alot of cars can get as much as 4 quarts low before you get the light

Thats good news, i suspected thats what is was in my earlier post, and 1 1/2 quarts is not to bad for seating the rings, and it might of not used that much if it wasnt filled all the way to the full mark.
