kinda random conversation here, just rambling about not much
As long as I can remember, since I've owned a car, regardless if new / used, I have always washed them and did interior detailing. Sometimes weekly, most times every 2-3 depending on time / weather. Never really thought much about the waxing side of it, until 2019, when I bought a brand new Chevy Equinox. There I was waxing every few months or so, by hand. Although I didn't do it much at all over the past year (before selling), I didn't mind waxing at all. It's not a horrible task, but certainly takes a chunk of time out of your day. Never found the time to wax. Washing became a "Mikes Car Wash" type routine. I really enjoy washing cars, but again, i think it might have been due to time. With my new 2022 Colorado, I'd like to get back into the washing by hand, detailing, and waxing.
As a kid I used to use the good ol Armor All brand from the local department store / auto part store. That was then, Now I am loyal to Griot's Garage Products. I have turned into a detailing product snob
. I got into that product line in 2018 when I purchased my 63 Beetle, which I still have. Although that is my show car, I have learned to spend a good amount of time in the details of giving it a show car shine. There are so many products out there, and brands. I think I watched a few reviews on youtube a few years back that talked about Griot's, and I decided to go with it. Although I don't have the experience to say Griots is better than another brand, I can say it certainly serves me well with the results I get.
I have gone back and forth about getting a paint correcting polisher, but I don't know if that would be as satisfying to do, than it is when i think of the final results. There are so many products, steps, and hours involved ans I don;t know if it's all worth it. Other than the satisfaction of having a squeaky clean / mirror finish paint job. I guess I can only answer that.
For me, I am a white collar employee that does a lot of site work, but always indoors. Never going through dirt / mud / rain. Always in a parking structure and / or parked in my garage at home. So sitting in the sun for long lengths of time is very rare. So a wash / wax will last me a good while before having to redo due to the elements that Mother Nature brings my way. Washing / interior detailing / and every few month waxes will always be a routine.
With all that random rambling, I ask this. Regardless of your occupation, year of your truck, etc, how much detailing do you do to your truck? How often? How involved is the process?
