Honestly, if the Ranger Raptor had adaptive cruise control, I'd have gone for it instead.

When I did my 2023 buyback I looked at either getting a Raptor or another ZR2.. The price for features (Raptor with same features is 8k more), and the looks sold me on another ZR2. I didn't think the Raptor was as comfortable to sit in or drive as the ZR2 either. I think if you had originally had a ZR2 instead of a trailboss you might not have switched, but I enjoy your content, and I hope you have a great time with the Raptor! It's an awesome truck!

 

going from a base truck to a loaded one will be a big change. Good or bad? who knows.


I looked at the Ranger Raptor when they first came out, biggest issue was no ventilated seats, do they have them now?

dealer wanted $15k over sticker, he could not sell it and shipped it to another dealer in another state. Now they sit on lots with about $1k off

Sorry but, I was done with Ford years ago after several brand new vehicles let me down in a short period of time and Ford would not back their product even in the warranty period.

Could not agree more, it's the main reason I won't even look at one and that's coming from a lifelong Ford customer.

 

Minus how fugly it is, the Ranger Raptor is one of my favorites in this segment. Enjoy it. Hopefully you avoid the blue oval plague of problems

I would have been a RR owner in 2023 if the unions hadn't been on strike that fall and a majority of Ford dealers didn't want to play "market adjustment" games.

 

I've had the ventilated seats. All I end up feeling like is I pissed myself. They're nice in the F150 and denali as the air doesn't cool the truck off all that well but when you can keep the inside of the vehicle meatlocker cold, I find myself not using them. I've had vehicles with them dating back to 08 or so. The perforations just collect dirt from working and they're a pain to keep clean. Without them you just wipe the seat and go... just my opinion. First world problems I guess.

I seen a Ranger Tremor a few days ago, from the rear quartering away it looked good, but not from the front.

there are so many raptor you tubers out there, they keep having to raise their trucks up higher and do more stupid stuff than the next guy to get/keep vieiwers.

My girlfriends Toyota has adaptive cruise. Mind you I hardly use regular cruise control but with all the mental midgets weaving in and out of lanes into it... I may as well have just let my foot off the accelerator and tried to see what happened. It managed to get us down to 35 mph in a 65 because any time someone weaved in it decided to readjust the following distance. Great in theory but with a majority of drivers having an IQ around room temperature in Antarctica, made for me to shut it off and never touch it again.

The pre-programmed following distances are awful too. You have: is there even someone in front of me.
I can see someone in front of me somewhere up there and my favorite...
I need to read your plate number without my glasses. Thats it.

It works a little better in the denali but there are just too many idiots around for it to be useful. The super cruise vehicles I've driven are an order of magnitude worse though but for other reasons... typically they ping-pong between the lines. Again, some better than others but was not a fan.

 

Love ACC on my 2026 ZR2......works better than many of them from other manufacturers IMHO.
Just need to be aware of what it can/can't do.......never get complacent.

The thing that sucks is driving 2 different vehicles one with adaptive cruise and one with normal cruise.......just don't forget it when driving the normal cruise!

And that is exactly why I hate adaptive cruise. Well, one big reason. People get too dependent on it, just like all the other nanny tech, and too many get to the point that they can’t drive without it. Of course a lot of them can’t drive with it, either. The other reason is just the idea that some propellerhead programming hardware thinks their @#$&!ng computers can drive better than me. I hate it all. When I was still riding a motorcycle, I intentionally bought and ride machines with as little tech as possible. Unfortunately they’re taking all those choices away from us with cars, unless we just keep driving old junkers into the ground.

 

I don’t care about statistics, and I’ve never been one to ‘run with the pack’. I don’t like hate the flood of nanny tech and other crap that overcomplicates and overprices everything. I don’t care what the masses or the bureaucrats think or say. I don’t want a data center on wheels, I just want something that gets me from here to there. Yes, I’m a cranky old fart, I know it, and I don’t give a ****.

My first car was a ‘77 Rally Chevette. Manual everything, the most complicated tech was the backup light switch in the tranny. I was going to say. I seem to recall a study out of... Netherlands? That suggested cruise/adaptive cruise actually lead to an increase in accidents. But much like how IIHS does their testing to say it reduces it. Its an entirely anecdotal measurement because you can't accurately assess those things. I do remember some testing late last year for rear or forward emergency braking where it was only able to actually work properly and prevent an accident at best 20% of the time which... really isn't all that great. However I would speculate that it was more reliant on the other vehicle than the equipped one... so again. How effective is it actually? If everything had it it probably works better.

On the flip side... I like knowing that if I flick my wrist I can plow into whatever stands in my way. Reminds me I am actually sane. (Borrowed from a Bill burr joke)

That's the primary problem especially among younger drivers who think tech is the answer to everything... it induces a false sense of security so to speak where they think they don't have to pay attention because they think tech will do everything for them

The advent of vehicle crash safety has also more or less warranted some need for these features. Go sit in a 90s or early 00s truck then a modern one. The full outward visibility, mirror placement etc is just way better. Just the windows alone being lower and having the mirrors mounted that much lower makes a huge difference. I dont need to use the backup camera in in my 19 for example but it is nice it is there... but I hop in the 03 and don't even think twice that it's not there. Pulling up on curbs, backing to trailers etc are an order of magnitude easier... but if I get t-boned I'm probably dead.

Technology marches on but I am glad I don't have it for now. Maybe when I'm not young and dumb I'll appreciate it more.
