Well, went to Walmart, O'Reilly's, AutoZone, CalRanch and Tractor Supply today. Not one damn sighting of any Dexos2 oil. Some 5W-30 and 5W-40 but not Dexos2. Off to the dealer. Paid $98 for a AC Delco filter and 6 qts of GM spec oil. It is what it is for now.

On a brighter note, I found a new AT4 just arrived at the dealer. Gasser, but the silver exterior wasn't bad. It's the first AT4 I've seen in town besides mine. And I got my Husky splash guards installed today. Very happy with the look and fit. Husky has outperformed Weather Tech every time now in fit and finish.

I found Penzoil Euro L (dexos 2) quart bottles at our local Walmart.

Another alternative is to choose the brand and specs you prefer and order it on Amazon. If you have Prime, the shipping is free.

Mobil 1, ESP 5w-30 is Dexos 2 approved and seems to be widely available. I run that in the TDI as well. I've been running the Mobil 1, 5W-40 Turbo Diesel Truck oil in the truck since last summer and I've no complaints with it and I've not seen any change in consumpution. I'm already tuned so in theory I could be out of power train warranty if something goes bump in the night, so running a different oil doesn't send any shivers up my spine.

I run quaker state euro L 5w30. It's made for diesels and on the back it sais it meets gm demos 2 api sn. Even though it doesn't have the dexos 2 blue label it still meets the requirement

It's been great

I still have 5 gals. of Total Quartz (Euro) that I bought when I had my Jetta diesel. It's C-3, so it was made for diesel engines and meets the alternative specs. I'll probably put in 1 qt. of it and the rest with dexos 2 when I change the oil.

just did my first oil change on my truck, used mobil 1 esp.

for the canadians in this thread, canadian tire seems to always have a mobil 1 product on special, if you keep an eye on it you can find the esp 5w30 for $32 for a 4.73l jug.

A little over $50 for 5 liters is high, and having to order your oil instead of picking it up at a local store is were the PITA comes in! It will take some getting use to I guess ;)
Look again. That's $152 for 15 liters, not five. That's about $9.60 a qt.

I do most of my shopping on the interweb. You have to plan ahead, of course. But it only takes me a few minutes to find exactly what I want at the best price. In a few days it's sitting on my front door step. It doesn't get any easier than that. I don't want to waste time and fuel visiting five different places to find what I need/want.

I don't buy anything from Amazon. That communist doesn't get any of my money.

Also, if I could get a Colorado and stuff a 4-53 two stroke in it, I’d give everyone at the EPA one big collective aneurysm and it’d be totally worth it. Then I could use all the Straight weight I want 😂
Seeing "Quaker State", "straight weight" and "girly stuff" reminded me of an oil test Project Farm ran of 70yr old oil.

Unweighted can, the real green stuff poured out, drilled straight out of Oil City, PA wells. He sent it off to lab, along with his usual tests, and poured it into his lawn mower too, then popped off the head to check for buildup.

I won't be running an oil in my diesel just because it's the-good-ole-stuff that worked for Grandpa's tractor.

I haven't read this entire thread, but I've bought all my oil off the Internet (mainly Amazon and NAPA). I recently switched from Mobil 1 to Pennzoil to see if oil consumption would be better.

But the OP should be glad he/she doesn't have the 3.0 Duramax. Last time I looked there were only one or two oils available for it.

For the Canadians, Wall Mart has T6 5w40 for $39.95 on the shelf. I have been using this last 2 oil changes.
I have never used the 5w30 Dexos 2( other than factory fill which I changed at 1000 kms.). I have been using a 5w40 every fill, always Motul Dexos2, but decided to go with the T6 5w40 now. I feel comfortable with my choice. Works good in the LML and L5P and they have similar emission set ups. I am not an oil expert , but have never had an issue on either my 2016 or 2020 LWN engines with lots of towing, and many winters.

Unfortunately, in Western Ny, where I live, you still CAN NOT FIND DEXOS 2 ACTUALLY ON THE SHELF ANYWHERE. Tractor Supply, NAPA, Auto Zone, Advance Auto, Walmart, etc. . Auto Zone said they would order me some but never called me, that was 3 months ago. NAPA says they can order it too, but never has any on the shelf. Sad if you ask me.

I see no more reason to even go to parts stores. It's a waste of my time and fuel just to hear "we can order it", which would mean an extra trip and more fuel to pick it up. Parts stores are cutting their own business throats by doing that.

Order it online to have the shipped to the parts store. Most times, it's free shipping. Pick a store near you and select the oil you want. It should tell you if any stores nearby have it in stock. I've been able to find Mobil 1 Dexos 2 locally at O'Reilly's but only one out of all their stored here carries it in stock.
