I came up with the idea and I'm lucky enough to have brother that is good with a welder. We can mount virtually anything to it as you can see. Turns my truck bed into a Swiss Army Knife/multi-tool.

Using the Gear-On load bars it mounts just below my tonneau cover, providing extra security, and I don't have to remove cover for my summer set-up. Ideal for when I take my jet ski to the lake, I can toss all of my wet gear underneath in the bed and it dries out on the way home without blowing out. I'm sure I'll get a lot of mileage out of it on Boy Scout camping trips as well as it doubles my space for cargo. I've been getting a lot of positive comments around Kansas City, so thought I would share with you guys. (patent pending)

Sweet.

I would think that this could be designed for almost any pickup and would have a decent market. Doesn't quite meet the price point for the "Cheap Mods" thread, but what versatility.

I like the horizontal peg board description. Got to be a marketable name in their somewhere.

For awhile, Ive been wanting to do an overland build, but with my trailboss, I cannot use a cap for more room, and recently I installed a really expensive bed cover, so I cant mount stuff to the cover, let alone tie it down. THEN after awhile I remembered that you (@robbpoe) did something VERY similar to what I wanted to do. Everything Ive tried to do, would come out crap, and I do NOT want to ruin my cover, or the sleek look of my truck. So I have to ask, how did you build that? got any pointers for me so I can build one myself?

I couldn't find a good thread for this post, and I don't think it warrants a stand alone thread. Found this while looking for something else, I think some of you guys trying to create custom rack or storage solutions could probably put something like this to good use.

TracRac 1250 lb. Capacity Base Rail Sliding Truck Rack System with Tundra/Ram XShort Bed-21784 - The Home Depot

Says it is designed for Tundra/Ram, but I could see pulling the cap off one end, cut to desired length, re-mount cap, and then use in a custom design. Food for thought, perhaps it helps one of you guys with a solution. Perhpas you all were aware of this and I am the only dunce to just discover it.

Man I would love one, but ive already bought the material to build on for my self... for me the timing sucks.... lol... can i ask how did you attach it to the side of the bed?

We used steel for this one. Long term plans are to go with aluminum for a little lighter weight. Built this one to attach to Gear-On cross bars...we are in the works for a cross bar that is less expensive and will work, but that is longer term as we may run into some patent issues with GM over that set up. I went with the cross-bar attachment so that I can still use roll up tonneau cover in winter to keep the snow out of the bed (I park in the garage and all that snow melt sucks to clean up).

Basically anything can be strapped down or attached using straps, or bolted on using fender washers and bolts. The bike rack is a Thule Big Mouth. It is actually the onus for this project. It can be directly mounted to the Gear-On cross bars....but since have the short bed combined with the sport bar...the rear tire of my bike hits the sport bar and wont fit correctly...so I had to move the rack back to hang over the tailgate a little bit.

Gas can mount is a commercially available FrontRunner...they also sell a dual setup.

As for the connections....well, I cant give away ALL of our secrets.

I will say that I can remove and reinstall by myself in less than 10 minutes. Doing it with the rails for the tonneau in place makes for a bit of a tricky angle which just takes a little bit of practice. We are looking at a price point of about $1,500 as they will initially all be custom. Just need to know long or short bed, and if you want full or partial length. Can also be manufactured to use bed clamps, but then you give up the option of using a tonneau cover effectively.

On mine I only have it running about 3/4 the bed so that I can stand up taller items, water jerry cans, etc. up near the cab.

I weigh in at 220, my brother is a big guy at about 250 and we've both stood on top of this thing together. Had me, my wife and our daughter on it a month ago at the drive in movie.
