Coolant Leak 2015 GMC Canyon SLT

Well, I thought I had dodged all bullets with problems on my Canyon, since I had none of the previously mentioned stuff that had been plaguing new owners. Then I started noticing some pink fluid on my garage floor about a week after taking delivery.

I took the truck back to the dealer and they checked it out, and could not find any sign of a coolant leak. The theory was that there could have been some overfill that had dripped out. However, over the next couple of weeks I noted a continued leak of a few drops of coolant each day. The weird thing was the the coolant was leaking back about 3.5- 4 feet back from the front of the truck and not under the radiator or coolant tank.

Back to the dealer last Friday it went, and this time they pressurized the system and managed to track down the leak to a coolant pipe assembly that entered the rear of the engine block. Needless to say this was not an easy location to get to to make the repair. Since it was the weekend it took 2 days to get a replacement part, then they kept it for an additional day to make sure they had it fixed.

All seems good now. I was very pleased with the dealers response and service. They offered me a loaner, but I didn't need it.

I think this was a pretty rare problem, but thought I'd throw it out there just in case anyone else has a hard to locate coolant leak.

Before the issue was fixed, did you by chance hear any rushing liquid on the passenger side behind the dash

I hear that often in the morning shortly after I get going. I believe it is normal, but I cannot tell you for sure. Might be the coolent getting going through the heater core, at least that is my theory. I have had other vehicles where I hear this noise as well.

It's probably one of those snap on hoses. Did you get a new one yet? Maybe the o-ring inside it goes bad.

It's just two bolts but I can't get my hand back there. Lifting engine would make less room...I was thinking lowering. From underneath...maybe if the transmission was out. It's right above the bellhousong bolts. It get a picture of this plastic pos. Disgusting how things are built now adays

How about looking through the wheel well? if it looks promising take the tire off. Sometimes you have to get creative that's for sure.
looks like a small air or elect ratchet would help a lot there too.
What is that electrical connector for?
Oh, wait, is that the famous electric thermostat I've heard about??? Is that the thermostat housing?

No way from wheel well....im guessing lowering engine or jacking up the cab only way im getting my paws back there.

It's about to get some stop leak and a trip to carmax I'm afraid. Didn't buy a 2019 for less reliability than the old ford cummins

Yeah it has that setup but this is just another water connection. Must have hit a pothole to hard before engine was warm or something

Not sure what that is on back drivers side of valve cover. If j could remove that it would give me better access....just dunno what it is. Part of the vvt?

I think I see that in your pic. I would pull the valve cover off and see what's up with that thing. It seams like it almost has to be for the VVT. Is there one on the other side in the front? Easier to get to and you can experiment with how to take it off or whatever without F ing it up.

Yours is a 2019? It's not under warranty still is it? NM just remembered 80k, damn thats a lot of miles for a 19

No it's just the one. I think I've decided to just pull the transmission to gain access. Might as well just put a new clutch in at same time.

Had enough for the weekend....rental car for now. Anyone interested in a 2019 2wd manual shift? Gonna restore the old truck and sell this once complete
