I purchased a Sport Bar (Part No: 85656456) and 40" Off-Road Lamp (Part No: 84861979) through the Chevrolet Accessories store on October 23. I also purchased dealer-installation for both accessories, which you can purchase directly on the website.
The accessories arrived at my local Chevy dealer within a couple of days. The day I took my truck for the install, I got a call back saying that in order for the lamp to work, I would also need:
The dealer admitted right off the bat that the Chevrolet Accessories page does not indicate there is a need to purchase additional parts for the accessories to work. In fact, the website FAQ states:
"This light bar can be operated by using the auxiliary factory piano key or the Accessories Auxiliary Control Switches (sold separately)."
The dealer, however, insisted that the factory piano key would not connect to the lamp and therefore they needed the purchase the other parts. They also said they need a QR code from GM to connect the light to the computer system - which the accessories did not come with.
The two additional parts and labor cost an additional $1,600 -bringing the grand total for everything up to $4,500. Ridiculous. On top of this, it took the dealer 2 weeks to return my truck, mostly because GM took so long to give them the code needed.
So I made a claim with GM, per the dealer's recommendation, to try to get some kind of reimbursement due to the fact that the website did not tell me about the required extra parts + labor I needed for the accessories to function.
That argument didn't fly with GM. After 3 weeks of deliberation, they said they could not reimburse for the extra cost since it has to do with accessories and not a factory installed component. They apologized for the confusion on the website - that was it.
Has anyone else had this experience? Weigh in please!
Don't get me wrong, everything looks and works great - but what a hassle this has been. An expensive one.
