Beware of auto side steps or running boards

I just installed the AMP electric side steps on my Colorado and I love them especially when they are retracted because the look so much better than permanent ones do. However, today in a tight parking lot with the truck next to mine, it was very close and I was standing closer than normal next to my truck when I opened the door. Well, gues what, the step came out and got my lower shin and it was a pretty bad wallop. I won't do it again but now I'll have to warn my passengers to watch for the step if it is in a tight spot. Other than that, I have no complaints about the steps and they are the correct height to help get in and out.

The old Kung Fu chop to the Shin
That will get your attention.

It is true that the AMP Steps are are that they are hidden
The problem is that they are hidden and can surprise us

I was very surprised that there was no garage door-like safety reverse switch on them.
The way legal responsibility runs, I'm surprised as well, or something wasn't connected right, more so in the closing function. The steps have existed for quite a while, the issue must have been brought to attention before.
