Adaptive Cruise question

If the GMC doesn't come fully loaded with this kind of stuff standard...I don't understand what the point of it (the GMC) is?

Adaptive/active cruise control usually relies on a radar sensor in the bumper. Lots of cars have both cameras and radars, but the cameras are typically use for "lane keep/warning" functions, sometimes forward collision systems, but ACC is almost always a radar-based system, it was on the last 3 cars I owned with it. These are highly integrated systems that can not be easily "added" aftermarket.
