I just got my truck and am starting to read up on it to become familiar with it. I have found a few links so far that others may be interested in.

Feel free to post up any other links that you know of that have a good read!!!

Thanks for the LINKS and the Youtube! I saw another Youtube awhile back about changing the Trans fluid. It seems there are now 3 Dexron fluids recommended for the newer series 8,9, and 10 speed transmissions depending on which one and type it is. Also, this family of transmissions is mentioned as being used in trucks in the video.

It isn't just a simple drain and fill for these transmissions like on the 6Txx series.

The video below was produced just as the 8L45 was used in the 2017 Colorado/Canyon, but is mentioned in onscreen subtitles in the video.
These are all the same family of transmissions.

Also...

If you guys watch the YouTube video above... You will see that there is indeed a black fill plug on the right side. So I am betting there is a dipstick getting installed one day onto my 8 speed tranny!

I do love the ability to check trans temps on the dash though. Temps. are what breaks down fluids the fastest.

If you ever start to see your transmission temps increase above 210deg F then be sure to switch into tow/haul mode since it is designed to create less heat. Typically transmission fluid starts to quickly breakdown at around 260deg F.
The second video (Camaro, Corvette, Cadillac ) info also applies to the 8L45 in overall design and differing fluid specs. Lately, for instance, those with the 8L45 "shudder" issues GM has been swapping out with a Mobil trans fluid. So I guess we will need to be on top of this as new information becomes available.

That is what is so awesome about these forums on the net. We can all share ideas and knowledge.

Before buying my truck I read up on the shudder issue that some folks have during tq converter lockup and hwy speeds going up a light grade. It allegedly stems from a packaging preservative for a part in the transmission (I believe it was the actual tq converters) that was not properly cleaned off on the assembly line. So they triple flush the transmissions to get it out of the system and correct the problem. Only read one small article/bulletin. Sounds like a simple fix though.

If that is all it is... then by now the issue should not be there on the 2018 truck I just got... I hope. lol

Watch the second video .. . it deals with and references more about how to changed the fluid and the proper type for each of the transmissions. A real eye opener.

But please let's not change this into yet another transmission "Shudder" thread.

Good to know. . I guess.

That would be a lot of trans fluid for a triple drain/fill.
