Wrecked my trans through a comedy of errors. Some blame could be attributed to the shop that I had replace my trans cooler lines and some upon myself for driving the truck after it was apparent that something was not right with the trans fluid.
The shop owner is a friend so I will not be seeking any compensation from him. ( He also does not believe that when he mistakenly removed the trans cooler adapter nuts it could lead to a migration of engine coolant into the trans). A new GM radiator was installed by me at my expense.
Truck was driven at least 10 miles after it swallowed a gallon plus of engine coolant. ( Did not realize at that time what had happened but was aware the trans fluid was a strawberry milkshake. I thought it was air in lines).
After discovering that the engine was down on coolant,( high fan speed, reduced power, what happened to the coolant?)., the light bulb turned on.
So I flushed it and replaced the pan fluid twice to help it but of course the clutches are delaminating. The Downshift of 2 to 1 can lead a to a harsh clunk and pause/ clunk as converter is compromised also.
It’s going to a transmission shop tomorrow for a rebuild. Shop quoted $4800. I told shop owner trans is behind a diesel and he did not flinch. We’ll see if it ends being the quoted price.
