OK, I have found the WIX and AC Delco part numbers, but does anyone know who actually carries them? Advance, O'Reilly, and AutoZone don't show having stock.....at least online.

AC Delco PN A3195C
WIX PN WA10256
MicroGard PN MGA10256 (Is this the O'Reilly store brand?)
Fram PN ???????

When I tried to get a filter, Autozone nor O'Reilly had any in stock, Autozone told me they didn't carry one. O'Reilly told me they had to order and could not give me a price. I was talking with parts counter while getting an oil change at dealer and he told me they had a sale on air filters. He had to order also, got it in 1 business day, but sale price was reasonable. I think it was a 50% off sale.

I been ordering just about all my expendable filters, etc. from Amazon. Not worth the time and effort riding around local part houses. Yesterday I ordered the A3195C Air filter along with a cabin & oil filter and they will be here tomorrow. The A3195C was $14.99 & free shipping. The complete order was around $35.

I too went to Amazon for the AC Delco filter since the stealership wanted $47.99 and had to order the part. Changed at 29,200 miles. Dirty but not filthy. No real difference in performance and with all the temperature swings in PA this time of year there's no way to check mileage improvement. I'd never wait 45,000 miles to change a $21 filter.

I went with the AFE dry drop in, it is washable but it does not get oil.

Hi guys.
My first air filter change in this truck as I have done so many times with other cars I've owned.
Is it as simple as remove the four screws and pull open the top of the housing to get to the air filter with no other parts to remove from?
Thanks

Yes.

About filters. I had a F150 that i purchased new in 2010. I used my truck to measure mpg and how it was affected by filters, exhaust, bed covers etc. with and without each and combinations of all. K&N flat air filters. AFE cone filter. Stock exhaust and Flowmaster. Not a single drop of fuel that wasn't logged in 47k miles.
What did I find? Air filters and exhaust make less than 1 mpg difference in any configuration. So save your money on the oiled filters. If you plan the clean and re oil them, you run the risk ok too much oil that will foul the mass airflow sensor. The exhaust can make it sound good, but you may get droning that can be really annoying. The only thing that will get you more mpg is a tonneau cover. That got just short of a 2 mpg improvement.
I plan to use the Delco filter because, as has been said, parts stores are at a loss to get replacements.

my local oreilly shows the wix in stock. $26.99. Screw that, I'll see if they will price match or just order from somewhere else. RockAuto shows that Wix for $15.94. And a Pronto for $6.44. I've heard of Pronto before but don't remember where/why/what.... Probably just get some of those......

Oh and their oil filters are freeking a buck and a half!

Sure enough it was fairly simple and easy.
Just remove four long screws and slide the top toward the engine slightly to disengage the two small latches and pull it up enough to get enough clearance for the filter to be freed from the slot.
I replaced it with a K&N drop in as I always have with all other cars I've owned.
The acceleration is already a tad more smooth and I will keep an eye on the gas mileage for the next couple thousand miles and report back.
The oem filter which is almost as thick as the phone book will be stowed for spare.

Let me add to this what I've found out because I have to maintain a 2016 Canyon V6 and a 2017 Colorado Dmax.

It appears that both engines (and actually the I4 too) all could possibly use the same air filter.

The AC Delco part number for the V6 and the 2.5L4 is A3195C
The AC Delco part number for the 2.8 Dmax is A3216C

But Fram lists CA11595 for all three engines. And if you go to the AC parts lookup and enter A3195C it shows A3195C and A3216C

The difference appears to be that the A3216C specified for the Duramax has the foam layer over the filter material. The A3195C does not. The filter dimensions are the same.

Not sure if it's accurate, but I've read the foam element is for cold weather applications as it keeps snow/ice from landing on the paper element and making it wet, hence restricting air flow. On my VW both types of filters are specified, the "foam" type labeled as the cold weather option.

a filter is a filter... there's no magic formula to them. they just keep junk out of the engine. anything small enough to get past the filter will just get burnt, blown out, or picked up by the oil. as long as you have A filter, then you're good to go. from experience though, most of the local auto parts have had trouble getting parts in for our truck at the moment which is kinda sad since its been out for 2-1/2 years already. rockauto and amazon do a pretty good job in terms of selection, availability and price.

It all boils down to what sells fast off the shelves.
Local auto part stores do not have the space like the on-line warehouse sizes stores.
The Colorado's are not exactly what I call the very popular truck on the road either even where I am in the deep south of Texas. It's still a rare breed.
But wait!
Don't other GM models share the same exact filter?

your absolutely right. it also depends on where you are.
for you, i would imagine full size trucks are the standard. not many buy the smaller versions.

where i am, i think i've seen at least a dozen new ones running around the neighborhood in the last 3 months. in fact, my neighbor 4 doors away just bought one after he saw mine!
