Whoever the "engineer" was who designed that engine cover for the intake throttle body should have his degree taken away. Its clear GM doesnt want anyone except the dealers working on their vehicles anymore.
Anyway, since I got spooked from installing a catch can I decided to do an intake cleaning every oil change with CRC Intake Valve Cleaner:
CRC Intake Valve Cleaner
Very easy to do once the stupid cover is off. Following the directions, after applying I let it heat soak for an hour. I started the engine and the check engine light came on. Called CRC and the tech said it should clear after one or two ignition cycles and sure enough it did. Said probably reading a lean mixture or something. Anyway, cant seem to insert pics in the post anymore, only attach, so the first pic is the underside of the cover, where you can see the part that gets clamped to the throttle body.
The second picture (taken from the passenger side) shows the barrel screw of the clamp that gets secured to the throttle body (red circle). Sorry for the quality but I was juggling the flashlight and the camera. Almost impossible to get to so I found it easier to take off the big air filter box to get a long straight screwdriver to the clamp (third picture taken from passenger side). The fourth pic shows the throttle body with cover finally off.
CRC also sent me a pdf of their powerpoint with their test results of their intake cleaner, its 9mb so cant attach here but if anyone wants it shoot me a PM. Granted it looks like a marketing tool, but at least its something.
