2021 Differential Oil Recommendations

For ZR2 differentials with ELockers G93(Front) and G94(Rear).
Below is what the Eaton ELocker lubrication specification sheet states.
--------------------------------------------------------------
• Most gear oils are sufficient: a quality, petroleum-mineral
based oil is recommended
• Synthetic oils and friction modifiers can also be
used, but are not necessary
• In cold weather conditions, a lower viscosity
gear oil (equivalent to API GL-5 75W-90) is recommended
--------------------------------------------------------------
A gear oil that meets API GL-5 specification may be used, such as,
1. AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR SAE 75W-90 100% Synthetic Gear Lube
2. Mobil Delvac 1 Synthetic Gear Oil SAE 75W-90
This thread isn't about ZR2 gear oil so this doesn't apply and adds unnecessary confusion because someone might think it's ok to use LSD additive with the G80. It's not. The thread has also been dead for a few years

Sorry if I potentially confused anyone out there, I'll try to be more specific.

For those of you out there looking for recommended oil to use in an open differential,
I offer these few non-LSD oil options.
Note: these are not NOT recommended for limited-slip differentials.
  • AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR SAE 75W-90 100% Synthetic Gear Lube
  • Mobil Delvac 1 Synthetic Gear Oil SAE 75W-90
  • ACDelco GM Dexron 75W-90 Gear Oil - GM 19352759
I have a 2021 Colorado ZR2 and it is part of the Colorado generation 2 family. It is a 4x4 model Colorado and comes from the factory with Eaton ELocker differential carriers. The Eaton ELocker carrier is an open carrier, NOT limited-slip. These open carriers need/use the same oil used in other open carrier applications.

So, I too have to look for oils that DO NOT CONTAIN the additives that are used in limited-slip differentials.
Now i think you've confused yourself. The ZR2 locker can use gear oil with additives for LSD or without these additives. It doesn't matter.

What matters is the fluid for the G80 auto locker, which is what this thread is discussing. The G80 requires gear oil with no LSD additives, so the list you provided without the additives is great for the G80. You can use whatever 75w90 GL5 gear oil you want with your ZR2 eLockers, the additive won't mess with its function like they do with the G80.
