Zr-steps. Zr2 sliders turned into steps, on another pair of zr2 sliders.

Hi all, i thought i would share this weekend project that i have dived into. The idea is the take the smaller tube off of a zr2 slider, shorten it, and use it as a weld on step on another pair of zr2 sliders. I mocked one up today, and will be finishing over the weekend. Thoughts? I know it wont be load bearing for the truck, but it should be nice and stiff as a step. Hat tip to Darren in calgary for donating his spare set of sliders for the project.

considering the cost of those parts you probably could have had a piece of tubing made for you for less that you could then weld on, but rock on man. make sure we can see the end results. good or bad, have fun with the whole thing i say

Luckily I got the second set of sliders for free. I could have bent my own tubing but spending several hundred on stainless tubing, more on plate, and then forming the plates, would have made this project a no go for me. Definatley a fun project because i could, not something for everyone. If it works well i may look into producing a bolt on version.

Looks good.

Kinda a twist on the common mod of cutting off the stock slider guards and re-welding them back at a flatter angle to work as the steps.

Yes i was definately inspired by those that did the flip, but i thought id try something a bit different now that there seems to be a ton of spare sets of sliders floating around on the market. The step will be a bit on the high side, but keeps it up and clear of obstacles too.

Good use of some free material. When my son was about ten, he’s thirty-six now, he told me as we were reusing a birdseed bag…. “There’s more than one way to recycle, Dad.” Good idea and it looks good too!

Exactly, i am a big proponent of reducing, or reusing if at all possible, anything else then gets recycled. Some of my best projects have been scrap or used materials.
