I am looking to tint the front Driver and Passenger doors on my 22 Canyon. The rears are obviously already tinted from the factory.

I know it's impossible to exactly match the rears, but what's a good tint % that gets it close? I'm not looking for super dark, but just a good complement. I'm definitely going with Ceramic tint for the heat reduction.

Tell me and show me what you have.

Thanks!

Is it legal in the state you reside in?

lol u srs? I guess if they got that much time on their hands to worry about window tint then we are doing pretty good.
Not sure why you are laughing at my question? Do you know where the OP resides to know if it is legal there?

some states they will pull you over especially if your vehicle is darker then is legal.

A couple years ago they made it legal to 35%, and the cops hate it. I see alot at 17% where they can be waving a gun at you and you would never know it...

Outside of Vermont, New Hampshire and New Jersey, every state has laws about window tinting: Window Tint Laws By State | Learn The Updated 2022 Tint Laws

yea but the point is, it's a guessing game for them and it's easily argued as fishing, especially if it comes back legal. You can be 2% more than legal and the only way they'd know it is if they run the test. If the factory is pushing a 20-30% tint, then it's already "illegal" in a lot of states. No self respecting officer that isn't fishing is going to waste their time.

I'm at 5%. They don't waste their time. I was at 5% in CA. They didn't waste their time. I was at 5% in VA, they didn't waste their time... I can go on...

If you couldn't stop before you saw which way they are looking, you were too close.

20% is pretty close on all the GMs I've owned. GM rates the rears at 17 or 18% iirc.

As far as the legality, lots of places bust balls over it, some are illegal. Around here, they tend to single out a particular vehicle type for it... nothing on the front 3 is allowed and more importantly they used to fail your inspection for it. Double check your regulations.

No the point is, does the OP know if it is legal or not where he lives .. not that you are illegal all the time...

WOW so I was to close when they were pulling out in front of me? How does that have to being "to close"?

I installed a 35% tint on my two front door windows, but they don't match too well with the back. I bought a set of 20% custom fit's in my garage and waiting until the day I'm bored and actually remember that I need to do them. Also, the 35% tint doesn't help much in florida.

35% is legal for here in Kansas. I have a Colorado crew cab Z71. I put 20% on both front windows and it matches the rest and back well. On new cars/trucks I've always put 20% (if a car) all the way around. Its not so dark you can't see out at at night and the cops all these years have never bothered me. As long as they can see some of your image inside the vehicle a lot of them won't bother you. Regardless of state laws window tint is usually depending on what cop stops you and why you were stopped. Its a flip of the coin.

Thanks everyone for the feedback and info. I live in Georgia where 32% is the legal limit, but it's not heavily enforced. They probably only check the tint after some other infraction occurs.

I'm leaning towards the 30% tint since it's close to being legal and still close to the rears. I did find where the rear windows say 18% +/- 5% in the fine print that's printed on them, and when I went to a local Tint shop today, they tested the rears and it read as 23%.

That's funny. Illegal in a lot of states from the factory. Whodathunk it?
Most states only regulate front two and windshield. You can spray the rear two and hatch black in NJ for all they F** care. Not sure what others.

How do you put 35% on?

When you factor in the already included tint. Adding 35 puts you over the limit.

35 is TOTAL. Not additional. That means 65% light needs to transmit through.

Used to be 30%. When I took the safety class. It was mentioned that a cop was killed because he couldn't see the driver had a gun.

I'm totally surprised they're allowing darker tint.

Too dark window tint, no light on your license plate, and other infractions are a legitimate reason to pull you over, but mostly when they have suspicion you might be up to something more serious including dui. As a courtesy if you have dark tint roll down all windows in the side where a LEO approaches. I ran dark tint even back in a state where it was not legal without a prescription, never had a problem.

Yup darkest I could go was 35 percent. I remember a few other Marines getting their car tinted darker than 35 percent. The MPs would not let them on base till they scraped it off. Needless to say it was a waste of money to tint darker than Allowed.
