I did a search and couldn't find much so I figured I would ask how many (if any) of you traded in a newer full size truck for your mid size? A year ago I bought a new Ram Rebel and I have realized with my kids grown and on there own, I don't need a full size truck 99% of the time and am wondering why I am dealing with the poor gas mileage.

I went from an 03 F150 to a new 18 Colorado Crew Long Box V6 Z71 in 2018. Love the Z71 handling, ride and maneuverability. Much easier driving. Comfort almost is equal to my 18 CR-V Touring!! BE AWARE.... MPG is no improvement.

I had an 04 Silverado Extended Cab Z71, traded it in for a 2019 Crew Cab Colorado Z71. Easier to get around in town traffic and parking as well as much better gas mileage.

08 Silverado to a 22 Z71,
Still getting used to the small truck since November.
Agree it’s more nimble, but gets thrown around more in the interstate.
I like it. Wish I could have justified the extra $20k for the 1/2 ton.

Bought my first new truck in 1988. A C1500. Had 4 more new ones after that. My last one was a 2016 Silverado. Hit a deer last November and totaled the truck. Replaced it with a Colorado LT ext cab long bed. Couldn’t justify the price of a new full-size. I really do like the Colorado. Don’t regret my decision at all.

Traded an ’06 Dodge Ram crew cab with a 5.9 Cummins on the ‘22 Canyon Denali diesel. The Canyon is much more comfortable, easier to drive, better mileage, less expensive to maintain…. all of that. It’s just got no power compared to the Dodge. The Canyon is more like a car with a big trunk, than a truck. I really like my Canyon and I’m not saying that I have buyer’s remorse…. but I sure do have seller’s remorse.

I went from a 2018 Colorado, WT, 4x4, 3.6, to a 2020 Silverado 1500, RST, Z71, 5.3 (purchased in 2019 before the Covid pricing craziness). It was a great truck but I just didn't need the size. I bought the Silverado because I got a great deal (12k off the sticker) and considering buying a travel trailer. Covid's impact on camping made me reconsider. I went back to a 2022 Colorado, Z71, 3.6. If I had a need for added capacity, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Silverado but I like the size of the Colorado (it easily fits in my garage).

In some aspects I prefer my 74 F250.

I don't miss the 11 mpg. And only 190 hp.
But it could haul a full sized camper.

I don't see today's full sized really worth it these days. The bed being only 2 inches longer.

I went from an 04 trailblazer to a 19 CCLB colorado. Also parked in the driveway is a 2007 (the NBS 00-07 not the government bailout bodystyle) sierra 2500 HD double cab long bed and a 22 silverado double cab long bed... I hate the 22 but the 07 and the colorado I'll switch back and forth between regularly depending on what has to be done. The 07 rides fantastic (not for a 2500 either, it legitimately rides nice) turning radius and handling are comparable between the colorado and it too... thats the one vehicle I've driven that was a true outlier because it shouldn't do anything that well. Also have a C3500 with a built 383 and that's like riding down a gravel road on a log and the turning radius on it is atrocious. Other than the milage (that 6.0 will basically do 9 mpg regardless of what's behind it) I have no problems with that truck. But I do find the colorado a little more comfortable on a creature level... the sierra is a strip model, so hand crank, manual locks etc.

I didn't downsize but i passed up getting a 1/2 ton for my colorado. I wanted the smallest truck i could get that could still pull my brz. This thing is great I can drive and park pretty much anywhere. My brother came up for the outdoorsman show over the weekend and we took his f350 CCLB and I honestly don't know how people can drive those things around. The thing is bigger than a parking space, it is insane.

I went from an '03 Silverado C2500HD 6.0L gas to a '22 Colorado ZR2 3.6L gas. I needed a new truck and needed something to fit in my garage, so I downsized. I have no idea what kind of mileage the Ram Rebel gets but I have to say, my ZR2 is no sissy when it comes to chugging gas. If your reason for considering downsizing is mileage, please make sure you will get what you are expecting.

So far for the life of the truck I am at 15mpg combined and I pretty much baby it. At 70mph (flat and no wind) it is usually at 16mpg and at 45mph I can get up to 19mpg. It's epa rating is 19 and 15. It would be nice (in small parking lots) to not feel like I am making a 3 point turn just to park too. The real deciding factor will be driving one once they hit the lots, but I wanted to get feedback from others who have already made the switch.

I'm with you. The overall driveability and maneuverability of the mid-size over a full size is hard to beat. And in my case, I don't tow anything large anymore so I don't have a need for a full size. With all of that, I am really enjoying the Colorado...even though I only average about 16.5 mpg, mixed city/highway/offroad. SO, gas mileage is not a "benefit" in my case.

I, unfortunately, have recent experience with this. I drove a Sierra Denali for 6 weeks while my Colorado was in the shop for the shudder again. (There is a separate post about that fiasco)
For the last month I've had to take this 8 mile country road with several hills and multiple sharp curves that would make some one riding a crotch rocket nervous! The Sierra rode pretty good and handled the curves pretty good until I took the same road in my ZR2. The ZR2 handled like a corvette, compared to the Sierra, it was much smoother and took way less effort to fly around the bends.
However the Sierra had way more power, there were a couple hills the v8 went up without moving the pedal while the Colorado would just die, I had to give it gas to downshift.
The Sierra Denali V8 was averaging around 16 MPG and I was "driving it like I stole it (since it was a loaner), about the same or more than my V6 ZR2,

I downsized from a 2006 F-250 4 door long bed 6.0 Powerstoke to my 2017 Colorado crew cab long bed LGZ. I was getting 14mpg's with the Ford, the only thing I liked about my Ford was the amazing turbo sound, power, look. But I have been very pleased with the smaller size. I never truly needed the Ford for anything I did, it was more of a want.
