Suposedly it is for a parking garage ticket or toll ticket if you travel in a state with a small ticket. I use it to store my YMCA Member card, works for me!

Since it got lost in the merge:
Excellent holder for your Drivers License, Registration, Insurance Card, and Concealed Carry License so you don't have to make any suspicious moves if stopped (especially when carrying).
Seriously, think about it. It's in plain view and you're not reaching for anything on your person or in the compartments in the vehicle. The way things are today, it's a smart way to carry these items when driving. When you leave the truck, just pull and put them in your wallet or purse. At least it gives me peace of mind that there will be no "I thought he was reaching for a weapon" accidents. If you think about it, the GM designers/engineers were really smart putting this in.

I stuck my National Parks Senior Pass in there on a recent trip, with the bright red-orange cactus flower showing. When we stopped at Shoshone Falls, the gateman said "three dollars," looked down at my card, and added "unless you have a Senior Parks Pass." Surprised, I asked him whether it was a federal facity as I showed him the card. He replied "no, it's a city park, but we honor that." Nice.

Now that we have solved the slot mystery, what is the little indent below the buttons in the dash for?

As luck would have it, the indent is perfect for my small Genie garage door opener, whose clip is too wimpy for our truck's manly visors. How thoughtful of GM to provide a home for my wimpy garage door opener.
