Just above the 4wd select switch is an area of smooth plastic as opposed to the textured vinyl the rest of the area is.In this smooth area is a slot,it looks like a credit card could be inserted into it...I haven't tried that.Does anyone know what it is????

Searched the first few pages but couldn't come up with anything, maybe someone here could help. What the heck is this for? 2016 GMC Canyon SLT. Someone said it was a credit card holder but I think that would be an incredible waste of resources considering the safety improvements that could be standard. Okay, have at it!

The location was reserved for an important upgrade to the trucks. On diesel trucks the integrated trailer brake controller goes in that location.

i am a brand new owner and i cant find any info in the owners man
the best i can figure is it is some way for a tec to hook up to update or get codes ????

Yup. Kind of goofy. A lot of folks on here are using the space to mount auxiliary switches (light bars, etc.).

Excellent holder for your Drivers License, Registration, Insurance Card, and Concealed Carry License so you don't have to make any suspicious moves if stopped (especially when carrying).
Seriously, think about it. It's in plain view and you're not reaching for anything on your person or in the compartments in the vehicle. The way things are today, it's a smart way to carry these items when driving. When you leave the truck, just pull and put them in your wallet or purse. At least it gives me peace of mind that there will be no "I thought he was reaching for a weapon" accidents. If you think about it, the GM designers/engineers were really smart putting this in.
