Offset is the distance from the centerline of the rim that the mounting flange is. For example, you have a rim which is 8 inches wide from edge to edge. If your mounting flange was 4" from the inner edge, it would have an offset of 0. Move the mounting flange in or out and the measurement is your offset. In the case of my truck, I have a 6.5 rim with a 23mm offset, meaning my rim mounting flange is 23mm towards the outside of the rim.

Still confused?

Backspacing is the distance from the back edge of the rim to the mounting surface. Offset is the distance from the centerline of the wheel to the mounting surface.

A negative offset will move the wheel out away from the vehicle and a positive offset will move the wheel in towards the vehicle.
