I'm setting up a truck cap complete with a 3 plug 12v power plug outlet. I'm going to be using it to run a really small heater and a cooler. I'll probably only run the heater when the truck is running but plan on running the cooler for up to a few days without starting the truck.

I'm debating whether or not I should set up a two battery system with an isolator, one starting battery and one deep cycle, or just get a single deep cycle battery that is capable of starting.

Has anyone set up two batteries on their Colly? Is there room to mount a second battery holder, what size alternator did you upgrade to, and how does the system work overall?

Also if I just go with a bigger capacity deep cycle/starting battery like the Optima OPT D34 D750S 12V Deep Cycle, will I still have to upgrade the alternator, or will the stock one be able to handle it?

The only folks I know of with dual batteries have the second one in the bed. Without some fun work I doubt there is room under the hood.

You'd need to relocate the windshield washer and probably the coolant bottles.

I added the second battery in my truck but it is in my back floorboard built into the amp rack. Any upgraded alternator is gonna be costy for this truck I got a 220 amp from Iraggi for about $400.

i run two batteries and the only way i got it to fit was in the bed. just not enough room without cutting and making a mess. so i moved it to under my toolbox in the bed works great! currently reworking the way i did it so that it looks a little better but physically its great
