I have a 2018 diesel all terrain 4x4 with a crew cab short box ,and I was wondering how much I can tow and what the max tongue weight would be for instance I have a small tractor that weights about 4000lbs with the rotary cutter and then a 16ft tandem axle trailer could it tow that? Thankyou for any help.

What does your door placard say ?

Your truck can definitely pull the weight of that tractor, but your point of constraint will probably be the tongue weight with that trailer. I wouldn't put any more than 750# on the tongue if you're going more than a few miles over flat terrain. As was said, check the placard inside the driver door and watch out for gross combined weight.

I have a 16 foot tandem axle aluminum trailer that weighs about 1,000 pounds. I’ve loaded 4,000 pounds of wood pellets on it and my diesel Canyon did just fine with it. As was mentioned, pay attention to tongue weight. I was able to distribute load weight easily with the bags of pellets. Attention to positioning your tractor will be important to achieve proper weight distribution, as I’m sure you already realize. Please use good tie downs and not those 1 inch dollar store things. My 2 cents worth is that you will be fine.

The hitch on our trucks is rated for a max tongue weight of 700 lbs.

The door sticker is your final answer

My 21 CCSB Diesel will do 7700lbs in tow.... BUT be careful as you near your limit, with passengers and any cargo and to much tongue weight you might over load your rear axle...without going over 7700 in tow.

I'm actually more concerned about your load and trailer.... I have a Kubota L series and a 16ft steel open center trailer (1,800lbs empty).... tractors (esp with loaded tires) are rear heavy... then you've added a rotary cutter.... your going to have alot of weight very far back... Might even hang off the back of the trailer.

Try it.... load it all up, measure your hitch heigh before and after the tractor is loaded. see how it all looks. (block your front truck tires when you load)

The 2018 Chevrolet Trailering guide up through 2018 apparently indicates a 1,000 lb tongue weight max. Then after that they show 770 lbs. Your hitch should have a sticker that lists a capacity that may or may not match that. I typically run 750 lbs (measured with WD deactivated) with a 5,000 lb trailer and use weight distribution. As others have mentioned your rear axle weight and other capacities need to be addressed.

From 2018 Chevrolet Trailering Guide:

NOTES ON COLORADO, TAHOE AND SUBURBAN Trailer weight

ratings are calculated assuming a base vehicle, except for

any option(s) necessary to achieve the rating, plus driver.

The weight of other optional equipment, passengers and

cargo will reduce the trailer weight your vehicle can tow.

See your Chevrolet dealer for additional details. Trailer tongue

weight should be 10% to 15% of total loaded trailer weight

(up to 1,000 lbs.). Addition of trailer tongue weight must not

cause vehicle weights to exceed Rear Gross Axle Weight

Rating (RGAWR) or Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR).

From 2022 Chevrolet Trailering Guide:

Notes on Colorado Trailer tongue weight should be 10% to 15% of total loaded trailer

weight (up to 770 lbs.). Addition of trailer tongue weight must not cause vehicle

weights to exceed Rear Gross Axle Weight Rating (RGAWR) or Gross Vehicle Weight

Rating (GVWR)

The sticker on my factory installed tow hitch (2019 Z71 3.6L V-6) indicates a maximum tongue weight of 900 lbs. (but I would never test that maximum capacity)

If you have a factory installed hitch, there should be a sticker on there that tells you what the maximum towing capacity & the maximum tongue weight of the trailer hitch is.

Now, your hitch is most likely rated for more weight, than your truck is rated to tow, so you have to factor in what your truck's maximum towing capacities are first & foremost.

@C21964 posted some great information above, as well.

I have a Mahindra 1635L, which is a small 35 HP 4WD diesel tractor, and I used to pull it around with my old 2019 Nissan Frontier, which was a 2WD truck that had a smaller towing capacity than my 2019 Colorado.

That Nissan pulled my Mahindra around with no problem.

With the torque that your 2018 Diesel makes, as long as your tractor is properly loaded on your trailer with the weight centered over your trailer axles & your trailer is stout enough to handle your tractor's weight, I'm very confident that you won't have any problems pulling your tractor around with your truck.

Can you post a picture of your sticker? Never heard of a Colorado/Canyon with a hitch that could do 900 lbs tongue weight.

Interesting, makes me wonder if GM had a different part umber hitch at some point. I have only ever seen the 700-770lbs tongue weight stickers. Thanks for posting.
That's possible.

No problem at all.

FWIW that is the same sticker (900/7700) that was on the hitch my 2018 Canyon. I changed it out for a higher rated hitch as I could not get a firm answer on whether or not it would work OK with weight distribution since it did not have a separate rating for WD. (Turns out that the OEM hitch it is apparently OK for WD).
