PassLock - What causes it to malfunction?

Hi Everyone,

I've scoured the existing posts regarding passlock but wanted to ask: What causes it to malfunction?

Here's my situation....it seems that passlock activates when I return to the truck to briefly get something (ie: phone) that I left behind. Hours later (or the next morning) my truck wont start. I get radio and dash lights but no start. My fix is to lock the truck, huff and puff for the next ten minutes or so, then return and it will usually start. A few times the ten minute period wasn't sufficient so I do a second round of waiting it out.

This leads me to my question because this rarely happens while away from my house. Am I causing passlock to activate?

I found the passlock bypass website and it seems shady AF. Additionally, I am not interested in splicing wires, etc...

Thanks in advance.

Can't say for sure here but I would check all steering column connections to make sure it's not fighting a little bad connection. It needs to have the key transponder code to clear the immobilizer.

Sit, Ubu, sit.
several things will cause it, I fixed mine by buying a new key lock part that goes in the ignition, was 35 bucks at the time, there are videos out there on how to change it.
the say the little flipper inside wears plus the key wearing so the switch inside does not make all the time

It would happen to me when I got in a hurry, like while sliding into the seat, slide the key in and turn it. now if I put the key in all the way pause for one second then turn the key it worked 99.98% of the time.
I went to the spare key and that seemed to help for a while, as the tip was not wore like the one I had been using for 8 years.

I second this as well. The immobilizer really doesn't have much to it.

Is the lock symbol displayed on the DIC when you are having the problem? If not, I don't think it's a Passlock issue. How old is your car battery? I have experienced immobilizer issues with the lock symbol displayed on the DIC on my wife's car and found the issue to be from a weak battery. The passlock system energizes a circuit in the key when you put it in the ignition switch barrel through electromagnetic induction and believe it or not, a weak car battery can cause problems with this system. The key is not powered sufficiently to send it's code to the system. Changed the battery, problem solved.
Thanks Everyone. I do have a second key and fob. It’s worth a shot to try it out.
