Hello folks,
I'm wondering if anybody else is having a problem with the heat not working on their truck? After about 700 miles, my heater goes on, and the fan is blowing only cold air.
The temperature of the engine is normal and nothing else seems to be a problem. Help please! in live near Chicago and it's freezing here!

I have noticed that if I set the automatic climate control at 70, even when it is 32 degrees outside, it will blow cold air. If I set it at 75, it will blow hot air at high fan speeds.

The sweet spot between 72-73 seems to be hard to hit. Sometimes I think I have it, and then I will notice cold air blowing, so I turn it up one degree and I get baked.

Do you have the automatic climate control or the manual?

Another thing, after I parked the car after driving it for over an hour with no heat, I went to make another errand and it was working fine.
I went out again and drove it for another 1/2 hour and no heat again.

Those inconsistencies would make me take it to the dealer for a checkup. I know on my 14 Regal GS with Auto climate, I noticed the same as you. If I have it on 73 and its 35* out, it doesn't go full hot to bring temps up and then slowly cool it down to maintain. It basically heats up slowly. Not sure if this is to prevent the windows from fogging up or not. Even if I put it on 80 or HI, it doesn't go full blast with the fans or full heat until the engine is at operating temp. The windows never get foggy.

I'm still happy with the way it manages the climate in the cabin though. Its not terrible. I'm sure it does what it does based on parameters programmed by the engineers and they had their reasons for it....at least that's what I hope :)

Good luck OP!

Thanks everyone, I have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow. Hopefully they find something.
So what did you find out? Anything interesting you would like to share...lol
Can't speak for others but I'm curious.

I have a similar issue heat on then all of a sudden it seems like cold air is blowing. If I turn the temperature up it warms up again. I'm not using the AC just the heater when this happens.
Perfect description of what I saw on some cold days earlier, it was cold enough yesterday that I never noticed this problem driving around in the ice around here.

Are you using the auto setting or manual setting. Mine workes great on manual, don't care for the auto setting, maybe different in the summer went I would use the A/C.
Auto.

I have not mastered the controls yet, but on older vehicles I was usually more satisfied with the manual control.

I also have a similar issue. Running nothing in AUTO, adjusting everything manually. Can have it set to 73 and get heat blowing like I want, then it gets to hot, so I adjust it to 72 thinking it will get slightly cooler but it drops to literally just cold air. Very frustrating. Would have preferred just a dot on the dial that you turn from cold to hot and you know exactly where you are with small adjustments, not drastic ones. Seems like a very over-complicated system for such an uncomplicated task of blowing hot or cold air...:clueless

Also having a pretty bad issue with fogging of the windows. Back windows won't unfog no matter what I do. Tried running the A/C while blowing hot air on high (with the extreme whistle sound - despite dealer servicing), tried AUTO, tried everything I can think of. Never had a truck have such a problem with fogging before. Sorry if it sounds like I'm bit****g, but I've never had vehicles that behaved like my Colorado, and I've owned several late model trucks.

Have you tried the rear window defroster for the rear - that should heat up both sides of the glass and defrost it.

Your issue with a 1 degree adjustment changing from hot to cold air blowing is exactly what I was seeing. When it is 25 degrees outside, not a problem, but when it is 50 degrees outside, I need a bit finer adjustments.

Yeah, I should have clarified, the rear window does de-fog with the defroster, but the side windows (crew cab) in the rear don't do too well un-fogging. Glad to hear I'm not the only one that has experienced the 1 degree change issue. :-D

Well I went to the dealer who contacted GM and found out that the HVAC control module needed reprogramming. It's been a couple days now and so far it's wor fine.
That's excellent! Could be a nice fix for others experiencing the issue as well.

Glad they got you sorted out!

Mine actually turns the ac on whenever I select an automatic temp setting. The service manager told me it turns the ac compressor on to remove moisture from the cabin, but it never switches over to heat. I'm thinking mine needs to be re programmed as well.
