No audio from infotainment 2017 Z71 Bose system

Hey guys,

I'm having the dreaded no audio issues on my infotainment center. They randomly popped up one night after driving to the park and parking for a few hours. No audio through the radio, no radio stations, no door chimes, and no blinker sounds. My infotainment center remains functional thus far though. So far I've tried the following...

  1. Open door reset (key on then off, driver door open for 2 minutes) - no luck
  2. Check fuse F20 (amplifier) in the passenger side fuse block - no luck
  3. Negative terminal off for 60 minutes - no luck
  4. On Star button reset - no luck
  5. Battery tested - tested charged
  6. Alternator - both autozone/o'reilly places said it's outputting low but it does have the variable voltage regulation so I'm fairly skeptical of those results
I just heard back from the dealer after I had them look into it, I appear to have the most up to date software and the service bulletin for the radio. They are suggesting replacing the amplifier for the audio issues ($972) and then additionally the radio unit ($550). Obviously, this is not the answer anyone wants to hear and I'm not convinced they actually did any troubleshooting beyond plugging the truck in and calling GM.

Does anyone else have any ideas on what else to look for? So far I have a few more fuses on my list (F69 - Battery Regulated Voltage, F14 - Radio/HDMI) and then pulling a speaker to see if the amplifier is sending anything to it.

You might give these guys a call (no association). They sell all of the IOS modules.
2017Z71 thank you for the tip.

Quick update team: I ordered a new Bose amplifier from Summit racing. Installed it tonight, I have my radio back and Bluetooth music. However I only get sound from the driver door speaker, no sound from any other doors at all. I reseated the connectors and disconnected the negative terminal for 60 minutes with no change in output. The door chimes are also not present in addition to my parking brake warning sound (which I could've used the other night).

I am open to any and all ideas. The dealer claims that all my fuses were good via the computer connection check. Before this happened I had audio from all speakers. Maybe an internal fuse on the radio head unit?

I think I would look for a bad connection. I would pull out the head unit and wiggle some wires and plugs, disconnect and reconnect plugs. You might get lucky.
Heck, wiggle wires all over the place too. While it on so if you hit the sweet spot you'll know where it is.

I have the exact issues with a 2016 Colorado. Started very early while under warranty and then intermittently since. I’ve had in for dealer service four times in the last few months. They updated software. Worked briefly. Told me they would open case with GM/Chevy and call me back. No call back. I called them. They took it again and did nothing. Said they were checking with GM. Still no call back after a week. Radio sometimes has a loud, blaring sound when I open door. Sometimes the blaring sound starts while I’m driving along. Sometimes sound will reset if I turn truck off Now it seldom comes back.
Hoping to hear from someone who has had success in getting the issue fixed.
Okay finally got some closure on this one. I tried a new HMI unit (which I had reflashed at a dealership for a nominal fee of course) and I tried a new radio unit (which was also reflashed).

Neither of these worked. Luckily for me the tech who flashed the radio unit noticed something that is specific to the Bose stereos. He noticed that my new amplifier was not "synced" with the rest of the stereo.

Apparently a new Bose amplifier must be synced with a new stereo environment to work properly. Once he synced it, I had sound from all speakers and all of my signal noises back. So case closed.

In my research I looked into getting a GM Tech2 Scanner Tool so that I could do my own flashing, especially considering each flash costs $90-130. There are clones on aliexpress that can be had for $350. There is also the option of ordering a MDI clone with a hard drive that contains the Tech2 software so that you can plug your computer directly into the car and run the Tech 2 software. Below is a link to a forum post with the unboxing of the Tech2 clone if anyone is interested. It is capable of troubleshooting much more than just stereo problems. I hope this post is helpful to someone in the future.

I have a sierra. Who told you about the bose amp syncing. The gmc dealer here has no clue and I need to talk to someone that knows. What dealership did you work with. I would love to call them. I have just 1 speaker working too. The rest do not work and there are no chimes. Please help me out.

Hey Jeremy,

One of the techs at davidson-gebhardt chevrolet in Colorado knew about that. Give them a shout and hopefully you get it working +1 970-622-1015. Good luck man!
The tech 2 does not work on these trucks. All new GM vehicles now use the GDS2. Everything is now done through the internet. Maybe look into an Autel product.

Have you heard of this sync issue before though. I am really starting to hate the infotainment system.

I know many of the modules have a security feature where the VIN is synced with the vehicle and other modules. Maybe that's what they mean, but I haven't heard that about the amp specifically. I know I've replaced a bad amp with a used one before and had no issues.
