New Ranger is HUGE

The details on the next gen "mid-size" from the blue oval are pouring out fast.

I raised an eyebrow when I heard it had 48" between the wheel wells.

Today I did some internet'ng and found the gen Ranger is 79.8" wide.... basically the same width as my 2011 blue oval 1/2 ton, and 5" or so wider then the Canyon.

 that's one porky mid size

That 79.8" is for the Ranger Raptor, not the non-Raptor.

the Ranger Raptor's wheel and tire combo increases track width by 3.5 inches while the enlarged fenders swell overall width by 4.3 inches versus the regular Ranger.

It's 75.5" without the mirrors counted in or about 3" wider than the 2023 Canyon without the mirrors. That's still 6'3.5" wide.... From R6G (All-New 2024 Ford Ranger Officially Debuts for North America! $34,160 Starting Price)

Per the Gauntlet thread, It is a really BIG Fail, 7,500 with a smaller motor then the 2023 twins??
no way will it tow 6,500 lbs 8 miles up the same hill the Colorado failed at,
at least the commentaters said the Colorado failed but i watched the video and thought it passed with flying colors.

Yeah, nothing showed that the 2023 TB failed the Ike. The failure was not having the DIC showing the actual transmission temp.

The Maverick on steroids!

Is it weird I like the Maverick more than it's bigger brother?
He had a banks i gauge in the truck so he could have just programmed it to show the transmission temp.

If Ford continues the tradition, the Ranger gets 3.73 differential gears which helps in the towing department over the GM 3.42 gears.

I'd also like to see a back to back comparison of the current or new gen Ranger to the Gen3 twins on an Ike Gauntlet with 7500lbs behind both. Same day/same temperature scenario. May be a while before a Ranger with the 2.7 will be available for testing so I'd be ok with a 4 cylinder comparison.

Any confirmation on what cabs/beds they are offering on the new Rangers?

So far just the crew cab short bed with some rumblings that the extended cab longer bed "may" be coming back. Nothing in stone I've seen yet though.

2.3 is stout, the 2.7 w/10spd is way more lively than the 2.7/8spd GM.

i don’t think it will have any issue at all.
I saw this too. Mid size trucks are going the wrong direction. I want a mid size because I hate trying to fit a full size truck in a parking space, and it won't fit in my garage.
And unfortunately, no 6 ft. bed on the Ranger, though there are spy shots of a SuperCab 6ft bed test mule.
I'm hoping Toyota offers something better when they reveal the Tacoma Friday night.
The fact GM doesn’t build the box for a 48” sheet between the wheel wells is stupid and intentional.

I like my 6 foot box with the crew cab but the fact I can’t slide a sheet of plywood into the box is just their poor attempt at pushing sales into the Sierra.
The Ranger is like 2 inches wider than the Colorado, calm down. It’s actually 3 inches shorter too.

I’d actually prefer a Ranger with the 2.7 but you’ll be waiting for at least a year and you’ll be paying above MSRP because that’s how Ford rolls these days.
With 48" inches between the wheel wells.... my question is whats the point? you either step up to the full size, or down to the maveric

I predict they will killl off the ranger after this gen

I don’t think manufacturers are designing mid-size trucks for the contractor to carry around 4’ sheets of plywood or drywall. It’s for the consumer who may buy those things once or twice in the lifetime of ownership and you can get by.

Ford is doing what they did to the F150….making it an F250. Some of us want true mid-size, stop making it into an F150.

Seems like every generation of truck grows an inch here, and inch there. A full size truck is huge, the mid-size trucks are approaching the size of the full size of just a few years ago, and the S-10 size is pretty much nonexistent, with the Maverick and the Santa Cruz the only smaller sized trucks out there.

I would holler for figuring out a way to get 48" between the wheel wells with the rest of us, but when it means the outside dimensions keep growing, there is a point where it doesn't make any sense. Right now, I could get a fullsize Silverado with pretty much the same powertrain in the 3rd Gen Colorado, with comparable options, for possibly a better price with the discounts. Tried to build that out and see, but too hard for my feeble mind to do an apples to apples comparison.
Seems like every generation of truck grows an inch here, and inch there...
I would say the same is true for all types of vehicles, not just trucks. Seems that at the first model design refresh manufacturers start increasing the size.

I considered this as well, but it does so well over in Europe. Last gen Rangers were designed to convince Europeans that having a truck isn't some giant "Merican" status thing and they sold pretty well over there. Designed by Aussies and not originally for sale over here. Wasn't until 2019 they brought it over here and it's been received as "odd" to say the least lol. It's like a round Uber version of a truck. A small town/rural taxi service seems more fitting to the Ranger than truck stuff itself

I also suspect with the Maverick out they will definitely not focus on the Ranger very much, especially after this Raptor version for $70k+ flops. Well.. hard to say flop really, because they will produce a limited amount and they will sell, but I suspect they will be on the used market within 3 years like a majority of other vehicles on the road now days. GM needs to compete with the Maverick, not the Ranger or the Tacoma. They have already shown they can do better than the Tacoma and finally more Toyota cultists are giving them a second look. Anyways... It's all in the planning for them. Profit as usual. I do miss the days of vehicles on the lot.
