I have a 2021 Canyon with 13,000 miles on it. I tried to go somewhere today, but the key would not turn in the ignition. I tried both keys. No luck. I moved the steering wheel up and down. I made sure that the transmission was in park. I tried to turn the wheel left and right. It barely turns. I cannot move the gear shift. I do not know what else to try. Any suggestions?

Sounds like the steering wheel lock is engaged. Try turning the steering wheel to the left and at the same time try to turn the key. If that doesn't work then turn the steering wheel to the right and at the same time try turning the key.

Yes, really pull on the wheel hard while turning the key.
Mine does this at times, just the steering wheel lock bound up tight. (hopefully in your case @bhavensinaz )

If its an automatic transmission try fully shifting into Park to make sure Park is engaged.

The service guy at the dealer called today. He said that both the lock cylinder and the ignition switch need to be replaced. They had to order both parts because they do not stock them, since they normally do not have these parts fail. Just my luck that it happened to me.

Hi. My truck is still at the dealer waiting for the ignition switch. It has been there for four weeks as of today. They told me today that the soonest the part would be in, is in two more weeks. Has anyone else had an experience like this, where it takes months to get a simple part? Is this going on with all GM cars and trucks? Or is it just my dealer?

It’s nationwide for a lot of parts. When one of our cars was wrecked, the repair shop said it would be upwards of 6 months to get parts before they ever started repairs. It’s all brands too, not just GM.

If the 23s hit the lot before your truck is ready, see if they'll work out a nice trade for you.🤞

This type of issue has been sadly very common for all industries since around March 2020
And, there is not an end of this issue anytime soon

They offered a loaner car. But, we also have a car and are both retired. The problem is thar our rv trailer was getting fixed when my truck died. Three days after my truck died the rv dealer called for us to pick up our trailer. The rv dealer is very understanding and said that they will just wait until my truck is repaired. We had hoped to do some camping during the cooler weather here in Southern Arizona. But, I guess we will just have to wait.
