Hi guys my first post here I have ever made. Hopefully you guys can help me out a little. I have a 2016 gmc canyon extended cab with the v6 and 2wd with the g80. I really want to lift the truck and put some 285/70 17s on stock wheels. I have read plenty of threads on here about how it's basically impossible to fit them without a 5 inch lift. I personally hate a 5 inch lift on these trucks its simply too much lift in my opinion. I have read the the zone 2.75 kit says it can fit 285s but I know they will rub no matter what. Does anyone know how much rubbing it would be, my friends both have tocomas on 33s and it looks badass on a midsize truck. They do rub but it's not a big deal because it only happens at full lock. If that's the same case for my canyon I wont care if they rub a little. I really don't wanna put 265/70 17s on but if I really have to I will with a 2inch spacer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Do a MaxTrac 4" spindle lift, and bust out the grinder and 3lb sledge. Wheel selection will also impact how much massaging you'll need to do. The wheel well layout geometry compared to a Tacoma's is the hindrance.
The MaxTrac will leave you suspension geometry in its factory position, so no ride compromise.

1. Eibach Pro Truck kit set at 2.7" or coilovers set at around 2.5"
2. 1.25" body lift
3. 1.5" wheel spacers or new wheels with +00 offset
4. Buy fender liner relocator kit
5. Set caster to 3 or more.
6. Start trimming anywhere you experience rubbing

edit Just saw it was a 2wd. The spindle lift mentioned above will be easier and less expensive so you can skip steps 1 and 2.

I looked them up and it dosent seem that bad I would want a leveled look so would i need a block in the rear to combat that and these will work with 33s ?

~2" block, or shackle, or leaf spring, or combo thereof.
Folks that have bought the whole kit, have voiced negative comments about their rear shocks, and removed them for something else.

That’s a lot of tire width for an 17x8” stock wheel. Something to consider that’s tangent to your original question.
The how much tire can you fit question is tough. Everyone’s experience seems to be a lot different and the wheel offsets make a huge difference. That being said, I’ve seen them say 32s can fit stock with minimal rubbing. I’ve got the 30.5 Duratracs with no lift yet and I’m rubbin go at full lock bc of my wheel spacers. I honestly think the zone or rough country combo kits would work. You may need to trim that plastic waffle in the front of the wheel well but that’s super easy and tons of videos on it. You can even buy those too I think.
