I've been wondering how big of a tire I could use on a stock 17" rims under my truck. I didn't see any tire size compatibility charts on this thread, or elsewhere on the forum for that matter - they may exist, but I didn't see it. So, I went to a site I have used to determine compatible tire sizes for my prevous cars:

The downside to this site is the lack of "crossover" sizes listed: for example 31/10.5-15 is not listed, though it is the next size up from 265/75-15.

Because I intend to use this information to help me choose a wheel and tire combo for my truck I limited my search to 15" - 18" wheels, as they are stock for the different trucks. I also want nothing narrower than stock, nor so wide I can't turn, so I searched from 265 to 295. I indicated I wanted no more than 2% difference from stock, for obvious reasons. I then sorted their data by % change from original. This is available as an excel file if anyone wants it, but I pasted the info below so you could get an idea how it would look.

This aggressive drop will lower the Colorado/Canyon 3" up front and 4" in the rear. The front is lowered with a lower control arm. This will retain the factory ride quality since the coil is not being changed. The rear is lowered using a 4" steel block. We recommend upgrading to a drop shock in the rear for premium ride quality.
Kit will not work with ZQ8 or Sport suspension packages.

what is the stock hight from ground to top of the fender on an i5 4x4 z85 this would realy help me out i forgot what it was before i lifted it and changed the tires

18'' ion alloy wheels/ 255/55r18

i was wonderind if anyone has seen a colorado with this set up . the tire size 255/55r18 is the same od as the 265/75r15, so im thinking this will work, but the offset of the wheels might make them stick out,im afraid i might rub. if any one has any info on this please let me know thanks, [email protected]

I thought a copy of this here might be useful to some. This is an offset comparison of the stock Colorado Alloys, and two 6 lug 5.5" Chevy truck wheels,15x7 front, 15x 10 rear. Shown with all hub surfaces aligned, this depicts the relative rim edge positions.

The math: The fronts (at the rim edge) will set out .68" further on each side -still legal. The backs, 3.18", possibly still legal.
The backs will only be .32" closer to the inner wheelwell, the fronts, .18" further away.

Of course, this is all based on nominal sizing, and takes NO account of brake clearance issues.

Hi to all,i am michael from new york city,my Colorado is a 4x4, I didn't feel good about towing it 3000 miles with the transfer case in neutral so I disconnected the drive shaft. It is really very simple; all I needed was a rachet/socket and took about 10 minutes to take out 4 bolts on the u-joint. But then I had to tie the shaft up to support it because it doesn't remove that easily, or I didn't want to leak fluid everywhere (can't remember that reason either - I must be getting senile!). I did it in the driveway. It was simple and quick.
While it was simple and quick, I wouldn't prefer to do it that way every day, just because I got dirty laying on the ground and messing with dirty parts. But it can be done. I'd say if you want to drive it every day, see if you can get a tow dolly and tow it backwards, but the dolly will add a lot of weight and be expensive. The best way would be to attach a tow bar to the front of the truck and disconnect the drive shaft. I never heard of a unit to disconnect the shaft easily. Thanks
