Replace belt, may need tensioner, 20-40 bucks at rock auto. They make a belt dressing that is a temp fix at best.

Hello I'm Dakota I have a 2005 Chevy Colorado and the belt is squeaking how do I fix it?
TIA
First off, WELCOME to the forum Dakota!

I'm assuming that you are talking about the fan-alternator-air conditioner belt know as a Serpentine Belt. Serpentine belts squeak for two primary reasons: cracked and worn out or the idler tension pulley is bad. Both are easily fix at a minimum expense. Just go to your nearest auto parts store and buy replacement belt AND tension pulley. Replace both and you are good to go for 50,000+ miles.

If you have never done this before, look up a buddy who knows how to do it AND take pictures of how the belt is wrapped around all the pulleys before removing the belt and the tensioner. With the aid of the photos, you can easily do it yourself if you are handy with tools. I have attached the following video as an aide.

Sell the truck. It's broken ;)

Belts are super easy to replace. Some YT videos while you work will help guide you. Not sure the mileage, but usually a good idea to replace the idler pulley and such while you are there too - at the very least, inspect them to make sure they are not the cause of your belt issues. Sometimes, those sprays can make it worse. Overall a fairly cheap fix to replace the majority of potential problems related to a squeaky belt.

Also a good idea to invest in a Haynes Manual. One quick read through and you'll be hooked.
