Hi gang,

I have a friend who does vinyl cutting and I thought I would shave the chrome nameplates and go to black vinyl as part of the bleeding of chrome off the truck (and the 0.001 L/100 km improvement in fuel economy from the reduced drag).

Well, seeing as the Chevrolet font is proprietary (but only subtly different than the nameplate fonts used by Honda, Kia, Dodge, Nissan and others), I decided to kick things up a notch or two and do something a bit more aggressive but still easy to read and the same overall dimensions.

So here, for your consideration, is what I've come up with... I've used the "Grand National" font to approximate the original Chevrolet font (it's pretty dang close) on top, and my design for the vinyl on the bottom. :D

Sorry for the confusion, folks....the top is only intended to show what the current OEM lettering on the truck looks like. I'm not replacing it with the same (I'd be able to go to Amazon or Ebay and get cut vinyl to match in a heartbeat and it wouldn't have garnered a post from me).

The bottom is what I'm looking at replacing the raised chrome letter with (in a black vinyl as I work to minimize the chrome)...blocky, but not stencil; futuristic, but still easy to read and not trying to show a like for any particular sci-fi franchise (i.e. Star Trek or Battlestar Galactica)....just something to get away from what has become (with only subtle variation) a pretty common nameplate font across at least a half dozen auto makers.

oh, you said you were going to "shave" the chrome nameplates, which I took as made thinner then over lay black vinyl over the letters,
now you say you are "replacing" the chrome letters ??????????????????

if you are going with the bottom, make them a tad larger so people can actually read it at a glance instead of having to study it..

My bad..."shaving" a vehicle usually refers to taking off the raised lettering, emblems etc., just leaving one or two items (usually the maker's emblem...but even the ones left are often painted or replaced with vinyl). I was formerly into JDM vehicles, so it may be more of a "tuner" term. ;)

So, yes, to clarify, I'm removing all the chrome lettering and replacing it with cut vinyl...likely in the bottom font.
