Yeah it was a storm with lots of ice a few years ago
Someone in my town went through a Telephone Pole
Chomped a section out of the pole
Not sure what they were thinking
I never got above 30 mph the whole trip home

And his car wasn't even AWD or 4WD
And of course nothing has 4 Wheel Stop in Ice

This is me every time someone says they dont need winter tires because they have awd. Ok what about steer and stop?

The amount of grip this truck and put down is very impressive.

I've found my ZR2 is great on ice. I usually keep in in 4Hi as opposed to auto on ice like that to prevent short wheel spins while auto figures out it needs to work. The best thing from me has been the traction control. Even driving carefully I can feel it make subtle adjustments sometimes when I hit extra slick spots.

I saw a short clip on the news that had several jeeps in a "train" with tow straps between them. When one jeep started to get sideways the straps pulled it straight. Looked pretty clever but the lead and trailing jeep would need chains or really good snow/ice tires to make it work.

We have a (spare) set of Blizzaks on my wife's AWD small SUV and with those on snow and ice it is amazingly capable. I have been on a steep ice covered driveway with that and it had almost no wheelspin on a surface you literally could not walk on. Of course unless everyone else has good snow/ice tires you don't want to be on the road regardless. I was amazed at the high average speeds on the live traffic display. Crazy.

I certainly don't miss driving in the ice & snow having been born & raised up north.

Here in SE Alabama we get the occasional snow flurries in the dead of winter maybe a dusting every couple of years, that's about it.

It did go down to 15 degrees this past Christmas Eve morning & we had a 4 day stretch where temps were going down in the low 20's after that, but, it was sunny & dry.

Unless the stars align this month, we may go through the whole winter with no snow at all.

Overall, my 2018 Z71 handles well in the snow & ice driving conditions up in central Michigan. Just put it 4 auto or 4 high and don't accelerate quickly or brake suddenly. We had a pretty heavy snow last Saturday and the roads were pretty bad, kept it around 50-55mph on I-75 without issues.

Saw a ZR2 spun out on a long curve merging lanes (I-75 and I-675) and he ended up in the snow banks this past Monday. Lesson - drive with caution.

When it comes to Ice and Snow driving I actually like it if the roads are empty.

What I hate is sitting in traffic with no place to go and seeing the car behind me spinning.

The sad thing is todays cars have so many aides that when they do slide or spin people have no idea how to correct the spin. The aids only work so far but they can be over stepped.

To avoid trouble I often take back roads and pass up the traffic.

It is not so much the need for winter tires but just good tires to start. Look at the tires in a parking lot and you will find many are nearly bald or bald. People hate to pay the price of tires and end up paying for it in body work.

I just did a video chat with my co workers in Dallas and they are coming out finally after two days, The ones that moved south are normally fine it is the locals that freak out.
We laugh up North they expect us in even if we get 18 inches of snow. Or used to but now I can work from home when I want to. Got to love technology.

Yep, the majority of companies are giving people that option now, mine included.

One of the very few positives that came about, due to COVID.

We were very lucky as the group I am in do not need to be in the office. We can and do most of our work via technology.

When this started we were the first group. I came home and about two hours later I was asked to see if I could log in and access my work. I could and since them I have built a nice set up to work from at home.

They did get me a 50 plus inch monitor and I was lucky as only one company had internet fast enough to run my programs. We are beyond the side walks here.

It has saved me a ton of money in gas and miles on my vehicles.

In the mean time I was able to spend the last two years with our old Australian Sheppard as he struggled with medical issues. Now I also have the ability to spend time with our new pup we are training. He is only 4 months old and 30 pounds now and thinks he is still a lap dog.. This is our third Sheppard and I think he is the smartest one yet. I tank God he does not have an opposable thumb or we all would be in trouble.

I miss KC as putting him down was tough after 15 good years but there was little more we could do for him. He became diabetic and I was clad I was here for his shots and all. He was my shadow.
