First time Lift and Wheels (Opinions and Advice)

1651 Views 8 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Hunter62
This is my first time going about lifting a truck and I’m trying to learn as I go.
In short my issue is I’m stuck going back and forth between getting just a 4” lift with who know what wheel or tire, or 5”(5.5”) with 33’s
Now, being it is my first time I’m looking more for opinions and advice about which one works more for you and why (to ease myself).
As far as what Im wanting, id like to have a slightly aggressive stance, that doesn’t require me to have a rope ladder to get in, without degrading the drive quality or power too much

Again this is my first time and Im not decided on anything yet. I would just appreciate any help, advice, or tread support given.
I drive a 2015 Z71

You can expect to lose drive quality and power with a lift and large tires. Many have regeared the rear differential because of the power loss.
the majority who have re-geared are those that went with 34-37 inch tires

depending on what type of lift you go with, it my ride stiffer and corner better then stock, aka take the body roll out of it.

there is a big thread on lifted trucks you may want to look at to get an idea on how you want your truck to look

79 pages of lifted trucks with info

this is relly good thread a moderator putt together with different lifts and the pro and cons of eaach

Thanks Hunter62, ill check it out

I just put in the 4" Rough Country lift and upgraded from 265/70/18 to 295/70/17s which is a true 33", also significantly wider. I couldn't be happier. I had to however reshape the wheel wells closest to the doors to accommodate how wide the tires are.

This is what she looks like now, (295/70/17)

And this was after the lift with the previous tires and rims. (265/70/18)

And other post lift images.

I think I say this to anyone that has or will ever ask about lifting their vehicle.....If you have the choice between 4 or 5.5 go with the bigger one.....everyone thinks that just a little is enough, but if you got the itch to lift it now you will get the itch again and be unhappy that you didnt go bigger the first time. You will be telling yourself i should have gotten the 5.5 instead of the 4inch.....

Now as far as ride goes, I didnt see much of a change. I went with the 6inch and honestly dont think there is a big enough difference to tell. I also dont think there will be a big enough difference between the small lift or the bigger one...So you might as well go with the bigger one. If ride quality is that big of a concern you shouldnt have gotten a truck.

Last thing ill talk about is power, I feel these truck are far from being fast to start with, I have the duramax, which i felt still has plenty of get up and go, with the bigger tires.

If i were you, I would just look around and find what looks the best to you. So think you can go to big, some think its not big enough....Wheels and tires will play a big part in the look of the truck as well...Take some time float around here and do some reading. Lots of good info and tons of pics.
