After searching the internet for weeks. I finally found a grill guard that fits my 22 AT4. It’s from Black Horse. I was thinking of installing it myself, but when I tried removing the tow hooks today I couldn’t get the cross bar holding the skid plate off to make access to the tow hooks. So, gonna pay someone to install it for me. . .maybe even add a light bar. I’ll post some photos when it’s done.

Making mods has been addictive. I’d better stop before my wife sends me to rehab.

Update

Purchased a Black Horse grill guard from Real Truck, for my 22 Canyon AT4.
Received it yesterday and took it to be installed today. After two hours waiting for the install, the surgeon came out to inform me the grill guard won't fit a 22 Canyon, but would fit a 22 Colorado. Oh crap. So they boxed it up and I drove home, 50 miles and jumped on the internet to Real Truck. Within a half hour they had a return label sent to me. I slapped on the label and drove 60 miles to a Fed Ex. Dropped it off and back it went to Real Truck. Apparently, Black Horse doesn't even make a guard for my Canyon.

Impressed with Real Trucks customer service to return the wrong grill guard. Hope they do as well refunding my money.

Kinda soured me on the grill guard. Think I'll just leave the truck without one for now

A day filled with major disappointments.

It always looks impossible when installing a grill Gaurd. Take your time and don't rush or force fit anything. I have no special tools and I installed grill gauurds on lots of trucks. A few trucks I did I even had to trim some of the bumper plastic.

Which one did you go with? I was looking at the Max-T but it said that it would interfere with the front sensors. With no auto braking or anything it shouldn’t be a big deal. However there seems to be an extreme overdose of electronics, that should have no need to interface with each other but do anyway, so I probably won’t get it.

I've never understood them either. But, I do respect guys reasons for installing them and, in fact, enjoy seeing different perspectives in mods. They're just not for me.

I think most people install them to deflect deer, maybe to bump a cow out of the way in a pasture, not to protect the truck when in an accident.

Then there are those who bolt a steel bumper to the front. When in an accident there iis no crush zone, just bends the frame

I think this one will do the trick.

Here is my setup:

First I installed a bull bar to protect my front from always hitting things on the trails when hunting, but it would always pivot.

So I went with this one because I like the push bar option. Not so crazy about the headlight guards, but it looked weird without them. The push bars are stout, the headlight guards are really only good for blocking brush and limbs, if that.

At least they were quick about accepting the return. And yea, while many body parts of interchangeable between the twins, the front is definitely different.

I'd go with Aries for a grille guard. I have the stainless option and they pretty solid. They also look great on these trucks. Here is my 2016 SLT as an example.
but will it fit his '22? that the catch, since they are different to even the pre-face lifted 16's

For point of reference, Black Horse's website does say their grill guard fits both the Colorado and Canyon but the Canyon cut-off year is 2020 as there was a refreshed front fascia that came out. Sorry to hear of your troubles, I'm sure it was annoying but in the grand scheme of things it's no big deal. :)

Well, you won't be as broke as you would be with a Tacoma

I checked Aries' site and the only front end protection I can find was their 3in bull bars in stainless or black.

Those are decent looking bull bars but what purpose do they serve other than protection from hitting a flat surface head on? Are they just decorative rugged looking ornaments? What about DEER GUARDS?

I need a full front grill guard that goes from outside fender to outside fender to eliminate/minimize deer collision damage. There are several independent weld shops that make them. They are very strong and functional but they lack visual appeal. Does anyone know of some decent looking, strong Deer Guards?
