Difficulty getting parts for service

4523 Views 25 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  glocktogo
I am wondering if anybody else has had a hard time getting Chevy parts. I have a 2019 Colorado with 2000 miles on it. 3 months ago,I took it in and was diagnosed with a instrument cluster failure. They have been unable to get the part despite weekly calls from me to the service manager and to Chevy national help desk. They first told me the warehouse is having shipping problems followed by the parts are coded for a particular car and the part is undergoing a refresh. I have also written to Mary Barry and mr batey ( North American ceo) to. O avail. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately for a part like that (non commodity) you are just going to have to have patience. With the current situation GM is going through things are difficult. Can you shoot me your vin and I will see if I can locate the part number and see if I can find it on my side to get your dealer one.

Tell them to order part# 84398584, 84624950 doesn't even have a Suggested List price. They have the exact same usage descriptions and this one is 2019 specific as the other one. I have a feeling that 84624950 is the "new" one they were referring to and without pricing, it's highly unlikely available as a part.

I am losing track of the time but my diesel Canyon has been at the dealer for 3 weeks, I believe. It went in a week before the strike and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with my emissions system. Sometime shortly after the strike they needed to order a bunch of exhaust/emissions parts and they have been sitting in Michigan since then. From what I can tell, my dealer doesn't have any recourse.

I fortunately did not have the same wait you did, but had to wait a week for the dealer to find a new accelerator pedal assembly. Kinda BS

Instrument cluster contains the odometer. It has to be programed with the certified mileage at the factory where they are made. It does add some wait time. I had to have mine replaced on my 07 Tundra which they did under warranty, but the wait was nowhere near 3 months! I think it was about 1 1/2 weeks or so if I remember correctly.
Don't lose hope, I've got a parts guru on your case, if anyone can find it, she can. Once I know where it is, I can take action.

I am not asking him to pay me for this or any part, I'm am trying to locate the part within GM's radius and get it to his dealer. I am a GM employee trying to put the customer first, not make money off people.

Been on the forum for years and emulous74, you go out of your way and do a fine job of trying to help members here. This is something that you do not have to do, but out of the goodness of your heart, you do. Let me say that we really appreciate all that you do. Keep up the great work. Thanks!

My parts guru reached out to the Supply Chain group and they contacted the supplier, the part is currently being made. Sent you a PM so you can verify that your dealership ordered the part correctly.

You are not alone in your search for parts. I've been looking for a clock spring and wire harness so I can install a heated steering wheel, and neither part is to be found anywhere. I believe it to be a direct result of the 3rd party suppliers of these parts along with neither GM nor the third parties willing to tie up capital in storage, despite federal laws requiring automakers to make parts available to the public. I had a similar problem when I was trying to track parts for my daughter's G6 convertible before she passed away. I finally found them used but not until after she was gone.

I would ask for a loaner truck until yours is repaired. Alternatively, ask them to remove the part from a truck on their lot and replace yours with it (I have done this in the past).
