They're essentially the same size as the current truck.

Incorrect. The plant produces more than just the trucks and they go down the same line. The model mix varies for a number of reasons. Right now it’s a couple trucks then a few vans then 3 trucks then one van then….. Please refrain from commenting on things you don’t know for fact.

That was the first official production, heading for a dealer, saleable truck. All the others were pre-production units

The employees all look like they would rather be somewhere else. They were pulled off the line and lined up for the media. It's a show, a photo op, an arranged media event!

Yes, it's likely been set up as a media event, probably days if not weeks in advance. That news video aired last night on local TV during the 9pm newscast, so apparently production started Monday instead of today (it actually takes a day or more for a given vehicle to go down the line start to finish). And if you look real close, at one point you can see the cab of a white truck between a couple of vans in the background to the right. That implies more are on the line.

It's common for automakers to run a handful of a new model off the line, then halt for a couple hours to do a media event. It helps boost recognition in the plant's region, in this case Wentzville MO and surrounding communities, as well as validate the efforts of workers who helped get the new vehicles out. I think it's great. Now if only GM would update that 30 year old van.....

the 2023 twins are literally 3 inches longer in wheel base, and the rear seat losses about 1" leg room. And the WT, LT, and Z71 come stock with no lift and without the 3" wider wheel track so almost the same size as the 2nd gen and only about 300-500ibs more in weight. So basically only mild body curve differences, new grills, and the Canyons and ZR2, and Trail Boss come 3" wider and 2 or 3 inches taller than the 2nd gens so almost the same exact size and dimensions

Yes…and note that the first truck is a lifted version-so it looks larger. Questions in mind:
BTW-I didn’t realize they were heavier. Isn’t that odd when mpg is so important?
2. Aren’t they required under federal law to list mpg on the sticker?

The Z71 and the Denali look about the same height. I didn't think the Z71 cam with a factory lift.

Wondering why mileage is so important.

Ist one is a Z71 and they don't come with a lift.

Pretty much this. I'd still like to know what the rating is. But I'd be shocked if it's anything other than 1-2 MPG different from the previous models - especially the ZR2/AT4-X. I'll bet those are lower if not the exact same as the 2nd gens. It is kind of amazing though... the 4 cylinder it's like they don't know how valuable a good v6 and tune are. I suspect it could be a dump of the 4cyl's they mass produced for the 1500's or they would be sitting on them for years. I'd be shocked if later year versions didn't offer a V6.

They both have a 2" lift over the LT's and WT's. Or at least the WT's for sure. Someone on these forums posted that info a while ago and I believe it says somewhere in the sea of details in the builder etc etc. Not sure about the Elevations or any of the GMC's though.

Edmonds shows LT 7.9” ground clearance-Z71 with 8.9…
So I guess higher due to tires not a suspension lift. OA height 1.5” greater.

Higher looks “bigger” that is, more imposing.

Anyone concerned about build quality?
