Black Tailgate Bow tie and Letters?

4322 Views 10 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Psycho Mike
Looking to get some glossy black replacements for the “COLORADO” and small bow tie on the tailgate. I know the part number is 15869661. But these are like $70-$85 USD from what I’ve seen. I found the black Colorado letters on eBay for like $20, but no bow tie. Has anyone seen any of the tailgate bow ties in gloss black? Or know if there’s a separate part number for just the bow tie? Considering painting my current one, but I want the finishes to match. And my lettering is kinda scratched and chipped, so getting the new black ones for $20 would be easier. But again, want the bow tie to match.

Well not sure what the black COLORADO on Ebay looks like, I went ahead and bought the GM black letter kit.

As far as the bow tie, i bought this set Black Bow Ties on Amazon. They are exact replacements for both front and rear. Have not seen just the back bow tie, but I needed both at the time. So wan't looking for just rear.

My bad, I have a 2008 so the badges you posted don’t apply. On the first gen the bow tie on the tailgate is a lot smaller

I have a 2012 LT. I found the black lettering but not the bowtie as well, probably will just paint the small bowtie or put black vinyl on it. Been up and down the internet & I don't think that small bowtie from GM#15869661 is available separately in either the gold/chrome or black.
Like Eplane suggested I would just vinyl wrap the small bowtie, the sheets that you can get off Amazon could wrap it multiple times if it comes off.
I used plastidip on my bow ties and it's lasted over three years. I'll probably give them another shot this coming Spring.

Black Plastidip. Add glossifier if you want it shiny. You'll be surprised how easy it is. There are multiple youtube vids on it.
Just note that if you try to do anything on the grill you should put something behind it so you don't spray onto the radiator.

Can you post a picture of this?

I'll try to grab a pic, but there isn't much to see. Just a black bow tie. Looks like the factory black ones.
Are the bowties easy to remove to shoot with plastidip? I'd want them off the truck to prevent any overspray. Also, are the 2nd gen side and tailgate letters just foam taped on? I'm assuming so, based on past GM practice, but thought I'd ask seeing as this thread is active.

For myself, I am tempted to swap the stock chrome to black vinyl lettering (our public libraries have vinyl cutting machines available to the public...I'm not going to hand cut all that lettering!). I could probably wrap the bowties while I'm at it...but right now I'm still in the planning stage while I wait for the great outdoor garage to warm up from the winter icebox ;)
