Hello and good day, two months ago I purchased a 2017 GMC Canyon with 53,000 on it from wilsons . It came clean and mean with no issues. I recently got my first oil change at Bennetts Cadillac Chevrolet Gmc, since I have owned it as its my first finance and vehicle. It was about 5-6 days and then yesterday my oil was all over my building parking lot, all over my good friends new home he just purchased and it lead to My truck was being towed to Bennetts in Cambridge where it had its oil changed. The tow truck drivers opinion was the drain plug was lose or
Cross threaded . I was not sure. I was full of stress and anger. So I went to bennetts hot headed... as i have not had good treatment as a new customer since day one which is another story and i can admit i should have been calm and not been so frustrated but i have to pay alot of money for that truck and i love it . So after i brought it in through warranty i had a rental for a day, i was stressed out , as its to much to deal with so soon i feel but i do know stuff happens. So today I picked up my truck and was told they didn’t do anything wrong, the oil filter was tight and the drain plug was fine and that they only needed to add 1 litre of oil and the real problem was a blown engine coolant line and I began to question it as I had driven it while it drained alot of oil to the point i would believe it was harmful to the engine . So i kept questioning and getting nothing but it was a mechanical failure . So i had to bite the bullet and hope thats what it truly was . After that I received my paper work, Myself and the service manager agreed to disagree in a conversation where I explained why i was so upset as I had been there and only there 4-5 times since I got the truck and they wronged me the very first time about reset the windshield which was covered but I was told otherwise Until it was to late and done else where. Then how the dents happened and they did nothing but deny it mean while my truck is monitored by camera at home. I dont use it for work and Im overly careful. Only people who have touched it and driven it aside me is Bennetts employees , Bennetts car wash which Ive never chose or asked to use as the only other time It was there was for running boards i had replaced as the coating did not hold up. My questions to you GMC owners would be
Is a blow engine coolant line common or known under 60,000 kms? Would a burning plastic smell be normal. (keep in mind the photos that will follow) dont seem to match up with what I was told at bennetts) also I need to know if I’m crazy for being so cautious and caring about my GMC. I wonder about the one litre they claimed was needed . I wonder if the engines ok . It had been driVing for 3-400 kms until this was.m noticed. The dipstick was also coming out dry so i dont see how it adds up. but I am also giving it time and im going to get a second opinion .

Also should I pay for a vehicle inspection to see what was done, if it was done right and if that was the issue? Any comments, opinions and advice would be greatly appreciated
Did the oil light come on? If not you are G2G

I am not sure as the second i noticed it leaking, (mind you it had been leaking for at least two days) I already had it shut off as I had drove to a job and kept it off and got it towed from there. But when i took a photo of the dash the light was on . But the truck was not turned over fully.

But looking at the whole situation and all angles, would you say it should be alright? I do have Engine warranty etc I just want some peace of mind.
You can read all about my oil leak adventure here: 3rd Annual Oil Leak on 2017 Canyon

There is a recall for the oil pump in Alaska and Canada because it pushes too much pressure in areas that get cold weather which causes the oil cooler lines to burst, but could also cause damage to any part of the oil system. I have the PDF attached on post #11 in the link above.

As far as a coolant line leak, like from the radiator, I had one of those pop off while I was driving 1 week after buying the truck new. The verdict on that was that the hose clamp was not strong enough and was replaced with a screw tightened style clamp.

Good luck!

Who would do the inspection, if you decided on that? One liter of oil low, will not be a problem. They may have not filled it to the Full line at the oil change. A large spot on the concrete may not be a big leak. It has a tendancy to spread.
The lot where i bought it would do the inspection but due to the engine warranty i said ill just see how It goes but as of this morning 5 days after the coolant line was replaced, I'm seeing Oil spots again. So it leaves me wondering what the heck is going on! Why is it leaking again!
I think you're confusing the engine coolant lines with the engine OIL cooler lines. Sounds like the engine oil cooler lines were the issue which was replaced. Manufacturing defects occur, which may have caused a leak from a crimp on the line. A blown line would usually cause a loss of a larger amount of engine oil. The engine itself should be fine with the low amount lost you stated. The new oil spots could be due to the technician not taking the time to clean the lower engine bay well enough. Hope something simple like that is the case at least.

The complaint was seeing a coolant leak, and now oil on the ground. What is it?
The complaint was about my
Oil change as 5 days after i had it done by me for the first time at Bennetts GM , oil was everywhere while driving and in the end i guess it only lost a litre or so which was the result of a blown oil cooler line . But its been a week and fresh oil or some type of fluid was on the ground. Could be they didn't clean it, but they swear it was degreased and cleaned. Its being put on a hoist today to see if it is just extra oil that didn't dissipate or its possible another cause . Just weird being such a fresh engine but things do happen . I personally just was shocked it happened after my oil change. I had the truck for two months and not one issue prior so i just left it at the mechanical failure or defect. The reason i was able to get this far and have peace at mine was thanks to everyone here for taking the time and care to reply and help me out knowledgeable Facts and opinions . Its greatly appreciated, thanks everyone and ill update soon.
Update : everything seems to be fine but day 6 after oil cooling line replacement I'm still seeing oil but i was told its most likely oil that has not dissipated but I will continue to monitor it as it seems a bit odd especially with how cold it is . How ever the truck seems to be running find with no problems. Praying it ends here lol. Thanks to everyone once again and hopefully this thread can help anyone who may end up in the same position looking for answers to there questions.

I would say, put a drop on you finger and smell it. You need to know what it is.
It’s hard to tell on that coarse asphalt.
Its just old oil dripping . Its basically stopped, and good to go.
