2016 Colorado emissions gauge / check engine light - error code P0442 - EVAP leak

I have a 2016 Z71 with just under 45k miles on it. A couple of weeks ago my emissions gauge / check engine light came on my dash display. Also, my remote start stopped working (I guess as an extra indicator that I needed the truck serviced). The manual suggests that you have the truck serviced within 1 week if possible, and it’s a really smart idea to follow those instructions, not to cause further engine troubles. I took the truck to Autozone and they did a free diagnostic check which took less than 2 minutes. It showed just 1 error code for: P0442 - EVAP leak. There are a couple reasons this code will show up, from something as stupid as a loose gas cap to my problem which was a bad Canister Purge Valve (Solenoid). There is a simple way to check the part while it’s still on the truck to determine if it needs to be replaced. It took about 20 minutes to replace and saved an estimated $200-$250 by not having a mechanic do it. I attached a short how to video.

I believe you might can get reimbursed for your costs thru GM, because I think there was a TSB for that on the 15-16 models.

‘Thanks, I will have to look into that, although the part only cost me $39.
It might also be covered under emissions warranty, 8 year 80,0000 miles.
The price of $40 is pretty expensive for an aftermarket valve, when the factory AC Delco is about $26.

You are correct, I could have bought it online cheaper, but I wanted to install it that day. Wether someone pays $26 or $40, it’s still cheaper than what a dealership would charge for the part. And the validation comes with replacing it yourself and saving $200-$250 in labor costs for 20 minutes worth of work.

In case you are not aware, any of the auto parts stores can get AC Delco parts from their warehouse in a few hours, but need payment up front. Just thought I would let you know in case you ever want factory parts. I have done it many times, at Oreilly , Carquest, Advance, etc.

I definitely appreciate the info, I had no idea they could do that.
Thanks!!
