Hey all I just bought my first truck. It’s a 2015 colorado. I have been driving it a bit and it seems to idle at around 20 psi but when I go to 2k it has about 56psi and at 3k it has 65 or so. When I give it the beans it hits 85-87. It has 114000 miles on it.

Don’t know the type of oil, should be the right type, has 96% oil life, got it from gmc dealer with fresh oil
If you just bought it.
I would go back to the Dealer.
Might have wrong Oil or something...
They should be responsible to fix since you just purchased... yes used I know

I got a 2 year warranty too, I just don’t want too much downtime
If you just got it
Go back to the dealer
You should not have that kind of Oil Pressure
Hopefully it something as simple as the wrong grade oil

I have seen them numbers for 6 1/2 years, has been like that since new. It has a high output oil pump. These new vehicles put out higher oil pressure readings from back in the old days.

Perhaps a faulty oil pressure sending unit. A manual pressure check will tell. With either old or fresh oil my pressure at 65mph (~1700rpm) is 45psi.

I questioned it when new and they said that is normal to see variable readings as those with the high pressure oil pump that GM uses with the VVT timing system, but feel free to have it checked out.

With 114,000 miles on it, I would think that the engine performance would be proven. My truck is 76 months old and has 26,500 miles on it. I carry an extra oil pressure sensor in my tool box.

Those numbers are totally fine. GM has even published a PIP regarding "high" oil pressure with the LFX engine to reiterate that oil pressure reading 60+psi is normal and that it can be quite a bit higher when cold.

Under various engine operating conditions 60 psi (413 kpa.) of oil pressure may be displayed on the oil pressure gauge. This should be considered as normal operation. In addition, during a cold engine start-up (especially during cold ambient temperatures) the oil pressure gauge may display at 70 psi (482 kpa.) or all the way to the right. This condition should also be considered as normal operation. As the engine and oil warm up, the gauge should begin to return to approximately 60 psi (413 kpa.).
Don't give it a second thought.

I have not changed one but it is in a tight spot on the side of the filter housing. Uses a special socket. I think you can do with a large open end wrench.
