My 2015 Colorado 3.6L AC compressor mounting bracket (GM 12651793) broke and GM says the part is discontinued. I've tried dealers, used parts on line, salvage yards. Without it no tension on serpentine belt and no battery charge. Welding old part didn't hold up. How can GM discontinue a relatively new vehicle part?

Any ideas?

Select your vehicle info, put your zip code, and look for ac compressor...if they have the compressor, they should have the bracket. It should come up with salvage yards close to you. Then just start calling them to see if they e got the bracket you need. Might show more yards than you know of. Worth a shot. Good luck.

edit...

Widen your search...it MAY have also been used on the Camaro.

Your local salvage yard should have an online parts locator service that can find a yard that should have it.

I think a machine shop is your best choice. Crazy to think a 2015 is going to be 8yrs old pretty soon...

Not sure the LFX in the Camaro is in the same configuration. Seems like that GM p/n is no longer available either though (92068682). Looks quite different.

Seems like GM has divested of the LFX engine unfortunately :/ There is already an aftermarket for LFX Camaro AC mount brackets.

You need to find a welding shop that does aluminum welding. It can be done. I would contact LKQ.

COVID caused a massive production shortage. That production is simply gone, and will not be resumed. GM has no incentive to do so.

There are also not nearly as many aftermarket parts companies as there used to be…. So no one is going to be picking it up.

This is only the beginning. At least it’s a part that can easily be DIY fabbed.

My guess is GM never made it. It was probably made by a GM supplier. And the probably completed the service parts deal of the contract. Supplier don't make parts forever only term of years.

I used to work at an auto parts supplier. They legally have to provide service parts for at least 10 years after production ends for a model. When they were quoting brake hoses for GM (Silverado/Sierra front brake hoses), they noticed that it said they had to provide for 20 or 25 years due to the length of the production run, plus the 10 year minimum, and I think some additional time. I was surprised when a coworker at my new job said they couldn't get a clock spring for their 2010 (?) Nissan Rogue because the part was discontinued. Maybe theirs had additional steering wheel controls, but I had a 2012 Rogue at one time, and it was still the same body style as theirs. 🤷‍♀️

AC failed last August on my 2015 3.6L 4WD with 81K miles. Compressor was replaced. A few months earlier the front wheel sensors failed and were replaced. Seemed like there was a very minor vibration in the steering after that but otherwise truck seemed fine. AC worked after the compressor was replaced but about 500 miles later the battery light came on and I limped to the local service station. The AC compressor bracket broke and the serpentine belt was loose. The compressor was damaged. The bracket has been discontinued and not available from any used parts or after market supplier. We had the bracket welded, new AC compressor and back on the road.

About 500 miles later the weld broke, more collateral damage. New alternator, idler arm and a used bracket from someone selling an engine. Everything was carefully aligned and torqued. I drove several local trips, a 250 mile trip and another 400 mile trip. I heard a slight rattle only when mild acceleration at about 1300 rpm. It sounded like a metal bracket or baffle in a muffler or catalytic converter but I couldn't replicate or locate the sound unless the engine was under light load. It got a louder but still faint on the way home. Next morning. Started the truck and wham. Broken back.

The repair shop can't figure it out. Is the AC compressor, all 3 seizing? Getting some weird signal or debris in hte AC line?

Very helpful comments. Used parts places did search and came up empty. I did have it welded but it broke again after a few hundred miles. I replaced it with a used bracket from a used engine. That broke too. Something is causing a super torque on the belt enough to break the bracket.

I believe you are the second one in the last month with this same problem. Very unusual.

I would figure out that problem before doing anything else

I have never seen any real enforcement on this.

Problem is if the supplier of the parts decides to stop making the part...
As a vehicle is not made anymore demand for teh part drops off
So suppllers are less likely to make the parts

You Can't Force A Supplier To Make The Part

In CA if it’s an emissions part the OEM will get fined, and you get a state exempt from emissions. It is a process that takes months and usually requires a lawyer.

In most cases they just find it. And you still have to pay full price for the part 🙃
